LumpWarden Wonder whether the stadium will now also change it's name to 'Royal Elm Park' - thereby using the stadium name to advertise the associated conferencing facilities etc?

West Stand Man Apropos of nothing to do with RFC, but Stoke are renaming their stadium. Apparently being called after a defunct building society is naff!

Just another way that Peter Coates, owner of Bet365 and Stoke, can funnel money to the football club without falling foul of FFP regulations.
Stoke make a loss and bet365 make a massive (taxable) profit, so the more of Bet365's profits he can channel across to a loss-making part of his business group, the less tax the profitable one has to pay.

Winston SmithCoppelled_Streets I've always supported the idea of a joint statue of Coppell and Madejski arm in arm
Coppell? Seriously?
144 years of history and you want a statue of a bloke who recently spent just 5 1/2 years at the club in which he oversaw us both promoted & relegated?

genome When REP was announced, I thought it was referring to the stadium name. I'd be totally in for that but it I thought the idea was to sell naming rights to a brand or such like.

The Sum of the Parts I'm not saying a Coppell and Madejski statue would be a good idea, but if for some reason it did come to pass, this absolutely has to be the model for it:

MrSwickle"Reading Football Club's Madejski Stadium is to have its name changed, its owner has confirmed.
Lady Sasima Srivikorn told BBC Radio Berkshire she is in talks with several different companies to bring more sponsorship money to the club.
It has been called the Madejski Stadium, named after co-chairman Sir John Madejski, since it opened in 1998.
Lady Sasima said selling the name was an easy way to raise income, especially as the club was "moving up".
Reading are currently 13th in the Championship but have had several recent spells in the Premier League.
"I know to have the naming right on the stadium can fetch quite a lot of money," she said.
"There are many companies that would like to have that naming right, so that is one way of making the money come in.""

Elm Park Kid I'm sure they said at the time that they would only rename the stadium once we got back into the Premier League and they could get a decent long term deal out of it.
So, Mad Stad it is then . . . . . . .
