Maguire
Dr_Hfuhruhurr
Maguire What's all the Robin Friday bummery for? Surely we've had many better players who have contributed more to the club than he did?

I think at least one stand should be named after The Elm Park era

Okay, if I were to go along with that (and it's not a bad point) then I think we should call it The Town End.

Call the East Stand the South Bank for nostalgia reasons and to confuse any wannabe explorers trying to find their way to the stand using a compass.

Brand them as North , South, East and West then at least we can start the season with 4 points

Be surprised if it does not go to vote based on perceived decent five suggestions or so. They will want the fans to embrace this stand bearing in mind the soon breaking news of the Caraboa Stand, Thai Airways stand to be announced soon.

In homage to the Tilehurst End, we should it the Whitley Whiff stand.

Better would be to rename the Academy as The Eamonn Dolan Academy.

Mr ReadingFC The Eamonn Dolan Stand

That might well, in time, be judged the most appropriate name but the time to make that decision is not the day after his death or indeed just a few minutes after it's announced.

I hope the club don't bow to the immediate knee-jerk social media pressure to honour him that way.

There are only four stands and the club has a long history (albeit tinpot) with a great many names that could adorn them.

Quite the opposite I'd say that in time we'd realise that it was a bit much and the stand should be named after someone with a bit more impact, naming the academy for him is a winner mind you

But isn't that pretty harsh on the likes of Bobby Williams?

The "might, but" was intended to convey that I wouldn't name a stand for the bloke - though I wouldn't be unhappy if, after a period of reflection the club choose to do so.

fwiw, yes, renaming the academy would seem entirely appropriate. It's his creation after all.

I know this is pre 2005 and you might not remember him, but what about Bobby Williams? He did a lot for the club at Youth team level......

shadow was still coaching the youth when I started supporting reading and certainly has length of service in his favour.
personally id still go for Dolan, for what he and the players he coached achieved (with admittedly a lot more financial backing than Williams) and because he died tragically young while still at the club

DEFINITELY name the academy for him if they can but has this kind of thing happened before? If not then that's lovely and we should be proud for having our academy named for a person who gave so much to it, and the first team to do that. If not then it's still lovely and we should be proud of it.
