Svlad Cjelli How utterly embarrassing that the club has caved in to this chancer with his ludicrous claim for compensation.
They've thought nothing of the implications of this for them or for football in the future, or any precedents being set - they've just gone for short-term expediency and so they've opened the door for the next one who comes along trying their luck! Because this guarantees there will be others.

"days before star player was sold"That Friday Feeling Reading REALLY have zero idea about PR.
At a cost of a few hundred they could have gone to court and got rid of this joker with no more being heard about it. Instead they've made themselves a laughing stock with this prick McGhee lording it in the press.

I can see three more claims right there.

I said it would set a precedent and got well shouted down.

Svlad Cjelli All such actions will lose, because legally they have no validity.
But the reason that the whole of football regards the club as a laughing stock today is because they didn't bother to fight it - for the price of a couple of hundred pounds they could have just slammed the door right in his face and set a watertight precedent, but instead they've caved in and settled.
Yes, it may be out of court - but any competent settlement would have had a "gagging clause"to stop his twat running to the Daily Mail, who, of course, have misrepresented things left right and centre - quelle surprise there!
From everything I've seen so far, this is at best completely naive but at worst utterly spineless and the worst kind of short-term thinking.
For years I've been proud to be a Reading supporter because the club acted with principles and integrity - that is getting harder and harder.

Sarah Star What if there was a gagging clause and he's broken it. How would they stop him if they've already paid him?
