Friday's Legacy
Seal What's STAR's official party line on a pitch invasion IF Palace does turn out to be a promotion party?

Stewards are vastly outnumbered. It will happen whether club or STAR like it or not! Sadly I'm in the upper west for Palace as I left the last couple of games too late and missed our season ticket seats for next season in Y26. We'll get on somehow!

You'll be able to get on the pitch from the upper west. Did it in the 106 season.

Sarah Star I can't give you exact figures, but 72% agreed strongly, 14% agreed slightly, 8% were neutral, 5% disagreed slightly and 1% disagreed strongly with the statement that Reading FC's kit should consist of Royal blue and white hoops, white shorts and white socks, which is a STAR policy.

Which resembles strongly the poll we held on hobnob as well. Who is starliason btw? Because whoever this person is they are a terrible liason for STAR.

:| It's a STAR policy to have a kit with hoops? What does that mean?

It means that if Star owned the club it would always have that kit, as they don't own the club they campaign for it every year.

OK cheers. So STAR - the voice of the fans - campaign every season for hoops and the club chooses to ignore them? Nice.

Seems that way, hopefully this poll which it would have been nice if StarLiason mentioned in the other thread, where we were being told that without a poll our discussion was pointless, that star already polled the fans and it was massively in favour of the hoops.

Yep. Presume they polled STAR members only - could have put a link to the poll on here for others to vote in otherwise.

Looking forward to this, will be good to have a bit of an atmosphere at the Madejski for once.

Sarah Star If you mean round the shirt - the time to do something about that was in October and yes, it was. The club was given proof that people wanted it and they countered this by saying they'd had people complain about the hoops all the way round before. This time we were able to give them numbers from our own survey of over 500 fans. I am pretty hopeful on this one for this season, tbh, but we'll have to wait and see. It may still have been too late.
500 fans? That's laughable. Hardly representing the fans!

Sarah Star If you mean round the stadium, that had to be considered well in advance and was decided against. From memory, I think the cons were - putting the cards out, cost of getting them printed, whether the stadium would be full enough and the fact that that day was special. Going up again will be special too, but not like that day.
Right, so... these 'clappers' are going to need to be put out. The clappers need to be printed. Obviously the stadium is going to be full - when is it not on the last game of the season?

And in case anyone was thinking of asking, no, I'm not a member. Nor do I plan giving £10 (or whatever it is) to an organisation which is such a shambles!

Just how is STAR a shambles?

I'm not currently a member but I have been. Anyone is free to join and indeed stand for a position on its board. It's a democratic organisation that pretty well represents the best interests of Reading fans 'as a whole'.

Frankly those that routinely decry its efforts and then say "I'm not getting involved" should STFU or do something about it - start a rival fans' organisation that campaigns for what matters to you. See if you can get a few like minded souls on board, and then see if you can enter a meaningful dialogue with the club (which is, of course, not a democratic organisation and can do pretty much exactly as the owner/management pleases)

There seems to be a perception, on HNA certainly, that STAR should adopt a contrary position to everything the club does. Whilst that might suit the 'standers' in Y26 it's patently obvious that would be exactly the worst way to get anything changed.

I'm not STAR's biggest fan but I'm glad they're there. Initiatives like the clappers are a bit gimp but it'll appeal to the next generation of fans. The hooped shirt survey might not make a difference but at least they tried.

It's not the end of the world is it. Some would seem to think that clappers are eroding this club into the ground. If you don't want to join in then don't. I won't be but it's not like it's the first time we have used them. Even Arsenal used them to generate an atmosphere and they needed it more then us. It's really a no win situation for STAR isn't it. Generate more noise than the clappers. It's really that simple isn't it.

They will cre8 a continuous, hideous noise and not an atmosphere.

A banner saying Clappers Are For Belmonts needs to be your next move!

550+ fans is a good return number. You will never get 100% or a 50% return come to that, 20% would be lucky. It was available to members of STAR and non-members were also asked their views.

The clappers come from the club not STAR. It would be nice if they would fund something else, but you can't bank on it.

Forgot to add that the hoops round the stadium thing wouldn't be half as good if on the last home game of the season we weren't promoted, which is still a possibility.

For some reason I am unable to edit my post to add this.

It's often been ignored but the reason we had hoops round the stadium was because we were playing QPR and it was hoped that they would join. But alas, they didn't which is why all the pictures of it are from the South Stand.

It was nothing to do with QPR, but yes we hoped they would join in and the PA announcer did suggest it would be nice if they did; but we would have done that no matter who we played at home on the final home game.
