Maybe, but in many ways its a great name for the stand.

If you want a link to The Elm Park era, its only really him and Maurice Evans, and there are just as many reasons for it not to be Maurice as there is for it to be named after him. Plus the average age of the fans who REALLY like Friday is getting on a bit now, and if you dont memorialise him now, his memory could become lost soon. You're right, you could easily say Ron Blackman or Trevor Senior are far more deserving, but the memory of Friday really was a big deal at Elm Park, and I think at least one stand should be named after The Elm Park era. Plus it will give me a sense of amusement when a six year old member of the Family Stand asks for an explanation of what he's famous for (though, given the appearance of the parents in that stand, I doubt theyll know). Plus itll give us one up on Cardiff who have even less reasons to idolise him, but seem to idolise him more. Naming a stand is a lot more than just listing your favourite players or managers, or else Id take SFs suggestion and be done with it.

of course, there's the corporate answer. Sir John gets the stand so we can sell the naming rights of the stadium to some company we can really get behind like Wonga.Com, or more likely, Thai Airways. Obviously the other three stands are earmarked for Reading celebrities Christ Tarrant, Felix Bowness and Kate Winslet's Dad.
