working class hero A rise from 300 to 445 for a North Stand seat is also significantly more than inflation.

I guess that the crunch point [as shown by Platypuss] comes when a family attends. Chatting to a mate today he said he was well happy with the prices - until his wife said she wanted an ST too...

In our family I have to find cash for 2 kids, an under 21 and 2 adults. It bites harder when there are more to buy. Some clubs offer special family prices. Possibly something to be considered?

Part of the problem with kids is that bedtimes may stop them attending midweek. That may mean an adult having to miss the game - or babysitting money on top of the kid ticket. And if you don't have an ST you cannot be sure of sitting together....

I'm sorry but if you can't afford it, then don't get them a ST. It's priviledge not a right

The rise in gas, electric, petrol and many food prices are also way above that of inflation, and the rise in prices from our last time in the Championship is probably not out of line with many other clubs, and is probably a lower increase than some.

But hey, we would be Reading fans if we could find something to moan about.

Agreed - and over the past 16 years football tickets have risen in price significantly faster than the rate of inflation. It's not right, but it's the way it is.

Also, it could be argued that a team expected to compete for promotion, with ex-PL players, is more attractive to watch than a team expected to finish mid-table, so a comparison with ticket prices which were set at the start of our last CCC season isn't quite fair.

I think the adult price is fair.
However I'm not willing to pay more for my kids for Championship football in 08/09 than I did for Premiership football in 06/07. And yes, part of that is due to renewal/non-renewal, granted.
Any idea why the club hasn't reinstated the U12 rate for the Championship?

Not read Howe's pearls of wisdom yet then?!

Got to sell our stars, cut costs and Steve Coppell may be allowed to reinvest a little bit of the proceeds if he's a good little man!

Bloody hell! I don't think even Gordon 'is a moron' Brown would have the bare-faced cheek to try to use that as a justification!

'Right dear, turn the heating and lighting off and starve the kids - that way we will still be able to buy our perfectly reasonably priced Reading season tickets and thank our lucky stars for the privilege!'

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, although any reduction has to be welcomed, I think the club may well have underestimated just how hard the increases in the price of the essentials you mention will be hitting some of their supporters. Still, I guess that's perfectly understandable when you yourself are only down to your last several hundred million! I doubt there is yet an economic necessity to leave one's Bentley at home and walk!

I'm sure that I read somewhere that Zebra finance or some silly name like that are sniffing around ready to part you from some more hard-earned cash in interest charges!

Sadly Mr PP i think that RFC are taking the Chelsea line that a seat is a seat, and it is better to sell that seat to a full price paying adult, than to a concession, time for RFC to become a family club and actually do some ground changes to bring in fans of the future, and at a reasonable cost. Though until the ground is bigger that seems unlikely.

A quick comparison with teams in a similar bracket to Reading. By that i mean relegated from the prem recently:

Sheff Utd £359 for the kop, just over £400 for other areas. Under 12s £69

Charlton. Adult prices start at £290 behind the goal, rising to £450 for the best seats. Under 12s £99.

Derby County. Adult Prices start at £270 with most tickets at £355. Under 12s start at £55

Brum £393-£460. £99 for under 12s

Norwich City £366-£398. £85 for Under 12s

You can get an family stand ticket for under 11s for just £10 at Ipswich

Given that the EP quotes Howe 'hoping' for more than 10,000 ST renewals the Club might be wise to look at some forms of concessionary rates. The Megablock seems to have died the death....

As for the argument that we are a bigger draw due to our ex-PL players.... Well they are ex PL as they didn't succeed in the PL - so how they are more exciting eludes me.
The belief that we will challenge may also be a delusion.

I was merely showing that not all prices rise at the level of inflation which is what many people seem to assume when prices go increase. Inflation is just an indicator of prices rises, it does not mean that all prices rise by that amount, some go up more, some go up less, etc.

People trying to use inflation as justification that prices have gone up to much is totally misguided.

I think you're missing the point I'm making, which is about the actual realitiies of the situation.

Yes, they are charging more than they *should* be for football, but most clubs do that.

But the fact that they have reduced prices by over £100, when the smart money was on no reduction whatsoever - and they could have easily got away with doing that - is surely something to be pleased about?

Not in the slightest, no. It was directed to the people who are getting a much greater reduction than anyone expected but still are moaning.

Even for you RB that comment beggars belief, what on earth has H&P's comment got to do with an "I'm alright Jack" attitude? If WCH can't afford to take his entire brood to the football then he can't afford to take his entire brood to football, simple as that, or do you think we should all just pay what we want, like a ST is a Radiohead album?

Hugo Boss Anybody know if they'll be doing that "seat move" thing when you renew??

Anybody any news on this ? I want to move closer to the front if possible or do we have to contact the club after the cut-off date fro renewals

You forgot to add "Most Reading fans spend a much higher proportion of their income on the Royals than JM does." Or have even you got bored of that by now?

I wouldn't have thought you could move before the renewal period is over for the simple reason that the club would not know which seats were already taken.

And if some people can't afford a season ticket - why not just go to fewer games? Share a seat with a friend? Make cutbacks in other areas of your life (like the rest of us)?
