Green Don't agree with where you're seemingly headed here, Big Foot.

Why should football fans expect and accept shit beer? Times have moved on.

Bit :| all round really

For instance, I wouldn't go into Yates's and order a pint of bitter then moan that it tasted a bit off. What's the difference here?

The gripe should be at the club not providing the West Berks Brewery option, but for a pre-season friendly with an attendance of c.5k, that was never gonna happen

Yates's is not the benchmark.

Decent cask ale is available at some football grounds - and was at the Mad Stad last season. Kick up a fuss, demand a better pint. Write to the club, your MP, hell even STAR - but don't just sip a shitty Fosters musing "Oh well we're at a football match, lets drink any old crap and be happy with it"

slightly related - if I was a multimillionaire buying a football club and looking to become a hero to thousands by throwing money at top players, I would also change the food and drink on offer making the choice amazing and make it all half price too. The cost would be minimal i comparison to the wages of players and it would have a huge impact on the fans and therefore your image and reputation

Mr.Swainey Why would you even spend any money on the concourse - bar maybe a few beers - anyway? Can you not go without food for 3 hours at least?

THIS

The cost of food at the ground is a joke. That's a grand a year you can throw towards a nice holiday for the family.

I would strongly suggest if that was your business strategy then you wouldn't be the hypothetical multimillionaire in the first place.

Its only a pint at a football match - it exists purely for the convenience.

Worked wonders for Mike Ashley's reputation at Newcastle m8, buying everyone a pint etc etc

Owning a football club is a loss maker anyway. You could say they are all bad businessmen based on their football antics alone tbh

I am talking your Abramovich's and Mansour's tbh, those with so much money they will never get through it in their life. Set up some massive marquee's outside the stadium, nice seating areas, pie companies etc can all come in and sell their goods, breweries offering all kinds of drinks and me, the billionaire owner, would pick up 50% of the tab.

Only a pint :|

I think football needs to wake up I really do. Consumers are paying far more than ever before, it's not unreasonable that their demands are greater too.

My only point was that if it cost £5 in april then why now by taking away something should it still be £5?
Effectively its around a 20% price increase the robbing bastards...
Bloke next to me was going into one as well becuase a tea or coffee has gone up 50p.
Its supposed to be a family friendly club so drivng up prices by this much will hit those families but WTF eh so long as Ian Royal can afford batteries for his Bakerlite Radio and tissue to clean his RTG..

Yeh I think you have a right to feel annoyed TBF.

Sure you don't have to buy the food or drink, but it's part of the day out for many and contributes towards the matchday experience.

Although WRT the price increase, you might see 20% this season then nothing for 4-5 seasons.

Ultimately they'll charge as much as they can get away with, they're not tied to Bank of England inflation rates.

This is why the Mad Stad is such a terrible match day experience. Reading's worst mistake ever, was to move the ground so far out of the town.

Go to Stamford Bridge and within a few minutes, you have a multitude of places to eat and drink.

lol. Yeh, walk just 15 minutes and cram yourself into one of the dreaful pubs on Earl's Court Road.

I see your point Kes but Stamford Bridge is hardly your classic counter example.

Deary me m9. Pretty desper9 stuff from you. You can pick many places to drink within a short tube ride of the Bridge. But if you only want to choose the Earl's Court Road, that's your problem.

Why would anyone want to submit themselves to the dire experience that is Stamford Bridge just because you can get to some nice pubs on the tube.....

To BF, after a very, very successful and very tasty real ale tester I would have expected them (99% certain they would) totally ignore it or I would have expected them to (highly unlikely) bring an ale into the concourse that was just as tasty and would therefore be just as successful. I did not expect them to replace one flavourless bitter with a name better renewed for decent ale but serve it just as blandly as the previous one.

I don't think it's practical to have a proper real ale on pumps in the concourse, wouldn't the maintenance and cleaning required be a nightmare when you have one sale period per week ?
I'm not a barman but I think there's a reason they serve tasteless beer and lager at mass catering venues.

If you think that's high, buy a beer at an NFL game...

I don't know how Carolina made the bottom of the list - I paid $9 for my beers at the Liverpool v AC Milan match there a few nights ago.

Yates doesn't cater for a clientele that wants decent ale. WBB's success last season shows that the Mad Stad does.
