Stuffed Crust Pizza The Southbank experience is what made me fall in love with football and in particular Reading Football Club. Afew thousand loyal and loud supporters huddled together spurring the team to hopeful victory with a wide array of encouraging, witty and entertaining chants. Even if the quality of football was poor, the Southbank hordes kept me coming back.

We all recognise that the vast majority of the time the Madejeski Stadium atmosphere is dull and uninspiring, however nobody has yet to make any lasting steps to evolve our support. Myself and a few like-minded people feel that its time for a change. So what can a small minority do to inspire thousands of lethargic supporters into ninety minutes of noise and enjoyment? I fully expect a few negative comments and the usual Hob Nob attitude towards 'atmosphere' postings. But we need to try something to encourage this stuttering team to promotion. Now I realise that Y25 already do a sterling effort in getting behind the team, also in Y19 where I sit and the north stand included sometimes combine and get quite animated. However a thirty second, half hearted rendition of 'Blue Army' may not have the desired effect, nor is it particularly enjoyable.

My feelings are that those of us who enjoy watching a game of football amongst an electrifying atmosphere need to congregate in one part of the stadium. Ideally getting a vocal contingent at the back of the north stand could have a Kop effect on the team when shooting towards it. Let me make it clear at this point I understand people may not be willing to move their seats and organising a mass migration of supporters would be impossible for the ticket office. However our small group have come up with a experiment and we would hope for a decent level of support on this. Please read on and I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

We have identified the Good Friday fixture with Sheffield United as the starting point. After looking at the online ticketing system it is clear that the block GU1 in the upper west is consistently unpopulated and would be the ideal location as any group that congregate their will be highly visible and hopefully be heard by the rest of the stadium. This may encourage others to follow and join the party.

I have taken the initial steps of contacting STAR and the club and have come up against no opposition and have their full backing on this motion. A few have already moved their seats to GU1 and the ticket office made this as pain free as possible, however they obviously charge the difference in price from where you usually sit.

This idea will not work if people do not commit to it, so if you have any interest in joining us or further question please comment. It would be easy for people to sit behind their computer and criticise or even make fun of us, however I can live the abuse. What we need is action and dedication to make a change.

Please come and join us in GU1. Thanks for your time!

Would rather sit where I am thanks but I would commend you for your effort. Though picking the block furthest away from anyone may well scupper you

Good luck.
I will remain in the North as my preference has always been to be behind the goal.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for people to start complaining about this new venture...

ive seen 'that lot' plotting up outside the frog & pickle in Manchester Rd on previous home games. Give RFC a bad name, and i for one don't want to see that scum anywhere near the North Stand.

I'm up for this, but having looked on the OS at the seating availability... there are 20 seats taken! So I'm going to hold fire for a little to see if it fills, then I will gladly jump on the bandwagon.

I have just returned from a visit to the ticket office. The lad in there gladly moved by season ticket from Y19 to GU1 for our experiment fixture against Sheffield United. So far six people have moved their seats for this game and they can clearly be seen on the back row of GU1, starting at seat LL12. So if anybody is ready to commit to moving their seat to join us please continue along the same row and try to leave no gaps when booking seats. Lets try to get everyone bunched right up together to make the singing more intense.

While I appreciate all the positive feedback from the vast majority, if you are interested please move your seat ASAP so we can guage interest. Taking the attitude of "i'll wait to see what other's do" will mean nobody else getting onboard.

Don't wait to follow others, be a founding member of the group and commit today!

I'm sure a quick telephone call to the ticket office would be the easiest option for people wanting to move to GU1. I've had a good look online and it can't be done there. Come and join us!

Reading vs Sheff U, Friday 10th April
*Season ticket holders bring a friend half price

With this offer in place, it would be great to get some people to come who may have stayed away from the ground in recent times due to the changing match day experience. Some of the loud souls who have been away for a while!

Yeah 4 of us who have season tickets, so were bringing my dad and two other mates, taking advantage of one of these offers lol. How do we use the offer? just ring up and say that we have a friend who wants to go?

Yeah just mention the deal and say that you want to move to GU1.So far they have been really helpful about it at the ticket office. If though they ask why you're moving just say you're getting a ticket for a foreign exchange student or some other bullshit.

I no i may get some stick for this but i thought it was worthwhile saying.
As the problem i can see so far is a lack of number why not change the venue to B18 the north east corner. There seems to be a lot of space there but at the same time there is also a lot of people already there that may help when chants and songs are started. I no the drummer that a lot of you cant stand is there but on some occasions it can only help.

I sit in B18 and most people don't want to know! Long term it is a good idea, but how do we know who has moved specifically to sing and who is already their. The brilliant thing about GU1 is that we know everyone who is their will be completely up for it and the fact that they have taken the effort to move really shows commitment towards the cause. Remember its only one game, not moving your seat for good. 8)

Yeah fair point it will be good to no who is deffinatly up for it
a further point though if people are serious about this trial is spreading the word further than just on this.
especially at away games where the support is already better

Count me in 200%! Anything i can do to help the club i will do my best.
You have me and my mates from b18 moving over thats another 4 people?
This could be the start of something guys like stuffed crust pizza said dont wait for others just do it!
if you wait for every one else to move they will be thinking the samething and nobody else will move, just do it and be apart of something that could change reading fc wouldnt you want your name to remembered as some one who did something for the club not just turn up and watch.

if you just turn up and watch football you are a spectator!
if you turn upto a match and give vocal support then you are supporter and i guess on that friday when we play sheffeild we wil see who the suporters are and who the spectaters are!

UPDATE - SPREADING THE WORD

Today I have contacted the local media to request some coverage and get this idea into the public domain and beyond our little bit of cyberspace. The Reading FC fancast have be contacted and I'm very hopeful they will give some coverage as they are at heart Reading supporters. Both local newspapers, the Reading Evening Post and the Reading Chronicle's sport desks have been emailed and informed of our ideas and plan of action. Also both local readio stations, Reading 107FM and BBC Radio Berkshire have been informed likewise. My real hope is for Reading 107FM to support our idea as the have close links with the club.

I will of course inform of any response and replies I get from the media.

Come and join us in GU1!
