Crap excuse. There are a lot of clubs that don't have a song associated with them. I only know of two or three clubs that are famously associated with a particular song. Really, in the bigger scheme of things, is being associated with a famous song by outsiders very important to the club? I don't think so.

Not Embrace. How is the whole crowd meant to sing along to that before kick off? Anthems need to be catchy, easy to sing and get the atmosphere going. I can imagine the whole north and east stand singing "Na Na Na Naa, Na Na Na Naa, The SUPER ROYALS, Na Na Na Naa" Not too hard is it?

Gordons Cumming Spacey has informed me that he started this thread in Club Policies so this thread is due to expire.

Thanks for all your contributions............................

thanks for posting it here GC, I don't read "Club Policies". Come to think of it I only read "The team", "UR&G" and "Anything else" regularly and occasionally "General Sport".

This is not about having a song associated with us - it's most likely far too late for that.

It's simply the fact that we do have an "Anthem" it's cheesy yes, but's it's a bit of fun and links the "old" Reading with the "new" Reading.

There is precious little left from the Elm Park days and bringing this song back may do that a little - even if you hate the song itself.

"It was 2.45 and Elm Park was alive"

"It was 2.45, the Mad Stad was alive"

Simple enough.

More importantly, what is the point or purpose of a club song?

Is it to help whip the crowd up into a braying frenzy? Is it to raise the volume that when the players emerge from the tunnell there is an avalanche of noise?

The only thing in recent years that has got the Mad Stad going was Lux Aeterna or whatever it's called. The Royal Anthem will have the majority snoring into their Bovril!

Bring it back, it was great. (Poll pls, Spacey.)

Anyway, once Mr Mad sells up, no doubt the new owners will change the name of the ground to Elm Park, thus dealing with any objections to the words of the song.

I love it personally. It's individual to us, and for that reason, even if I didn't like it. I'd want to see it return.

I've never heard of it. I wish they'd bring back Lux Aeterna. That does it for me - shiver of excitement and anticipation, a chance to shout Urrzzz at the right moment, nothing cissy or boring about it.

Kitson12 Though, how to fit Madejski into the slot where 'Elm Park' was?

I'll bring my spade!

Maybe he'll fit somewhere in Graham's garden if he still lives there.

Not only would this be the worst club anthem ever, but it is quite possibly one of the worst football related songs ever.

All I can think of is the crap 70's, mullets and ridiculously short tight shorts.

Wish we could bop along again to Terry and June!
