Southbank Old Boy
Rev Algenon Stickleback H Apparently Waitrose employees get 25% off a season ticket.

I've no idea if you have to have worked there for a specified amount of time, or whether you could just apply to be a part-time worker doing a minimal shift, then jack it in when you've got your reduced ticket though.

Has this been confirmed anywhere?

It's definite. Employees even get a retrospective discount on STs bought before the Waitrose deal was announced. They're also giving away 250 free tickets per match to staff.

I don't mind the free tickets if we can't sell them, but I'm amazed that the club have given Waitrose staff such a massive discount.

As a season ticket holder for the best part of 20 years I'm fuming that the club has done this.

I know all organisations offer discount schemes and so on, but that's a huge discount for no real reason. I'm even sure the numbers receiving the discount will be pretty low, but it's the principle that gets me

If it's open to friends and fammily too then I think its even worse

My 25 year love affair with the club really is being tested to the limit this year

The "free" tickets will have been paid for by Waitrose before being passed on to staff, I would hazard. That's certainly how it works where I work.

I've no problem with the 25% discount either - this would have been factored in to the price paid for the sponsorship deal and if not and it means the club sell some extra STs that they otherwise would not have sold then I don't see the problem.

My problem is that a whole set of people are able to get the same "product" as me for 25% less than I'm charged all because they work for the company that the club managed to get in at the last minute to sponsor the short.

It's a little irrational maybe, but it's just another slap in the face to the long term fan by the club. I'm not bothered by the monetry value to the club, and free tickets to potential new fans is great, but a massive discount on season tickets just strikes me as unfair on current STHs at a time when football is overpriced and some are already turning their back on the game because of cost.

I appreciate that the Waitrose money will be offsetting the cost to the club. I couldn't care less how the clubs books look as a result, it's the fact that Mr John Lewis sat next to me in the East Stand has paid 25% less for his season ticket than I have.

Irrational yes, but then so is putting up with the crap the club has dealt to me over the last 25 years!

That's if all season ticket holders turn up. (some of which are on their hols)

The idea of football being back - good... actually being there will be shit and we'll all wonder why we bothered after 3 minutes.

Would that person have bought a ST if it were not for the extra discount? Possibly not, so it's an extra revenue stream. I know it might not sound 'fair' for Joe Public but the club have been doing this with organisations since day one at the Madejski, in fact promotion to the Premiership was the first time they haven't offered discounted ST's to corporate sponsors

On such a large scale? In terms of potential beneficiaries I mean.

The fact that they offer retrospective discounts would suggest that they expect there to be a demand for existing season ticket holders who would be eligable. Infact thinking about it I think I know 4 already!

Like I said, my gripe is pretty irrational, and I accept that discounts have been offered in the past and will be in the future. Doesn't mean I have to like it though.

If you are pissed off with the way football is going dont go, it is not that hard, you soon find that there is more to life, and you can still follow and support RFC without going.

I do, and one day I shall be a regular again, I doubt many got a 25% discount in all reality, did we not stop selling ST's around the time Waitrose were announced as sponsors

Unfortunately I'm a stubborn git and won't give up my seat or my habit so lightly. I also enjoy the rest of the day with the people I've supported the club with for the last 20 odd years. The football is still enjoyable despite everything the club has done to sour my experience (a lot of it outside of my just going to the game).

I've also already stumped up my money for the ST so I'm a bit loathed to just throw it away!!

As for the discount, it be claimed retrospectively and so the number might be higher than you think, but I agree the number won't be significant, it's purely the pricnliple that has, admittedly irrationally, wound me up. Although they officially stopped selling STs, I thought someone said on here that you could still buy them if you went in and asked. If not then the club are more stupid than they make out
