Can someone who's read the planning application please give a quick summary of what is planned for the stadium itself, rather than the areas around it?

As I understood it at the consultation nothing was planned at the stadium itself except for a high level welakay from the new hotel across to somewhere in the Upper West concourse. The logic for this was to make the existing conference facilities and boxes easily accessible to the new facilities.
I think the stadium plans have been resubmitted because the REP plans completely change the basis on which the stadium plans were originally approved , I've not looked at the new plans so hopefully someone can run through what they involve and whether they differ from what we already knew.

VERY. I can't help but completely against it. As they say, the Thai's are forcing this through ASAP. They want a quick profit, then they'll be off. They said it not that long ago, if this club isn't in the PL then it isn't making money, and if it doesn't make money, they'll have to sell after a few years.

The whole idea of the new generation of sports stadia was to take them out of the middle of towns and areas of housing.

These proposals will stick the Mad Stad right back in the middle of the type of environment it was meant to be free from and recreate all of the associated problems.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the proposals in their current form thrown out (unless RBC are offered significant planning gain - just how does that differ from a bribe?!) . If it is thrown out I suspect the Thais will lose interest and put the club up for sale again.

It wasn't really about relieving the problems to people living near a ground though. It was about the problems of building/expanding in constrained sites and allowing better access to motorways etc.

Reduced parking is the only issue with this development. It won't impact our ability to expand the ground, if required, not will have much impact for the residents. They won't be finding their parking spaces taken by fans.

I always thought that was a by product rather than a deliberate aim. Huge plots of land don't come up in town too often - and even if they do you'd probably get a better return building flats.

You do need a certain level of infrastructure around a stadium - ideally anyway, arguably the Mad Stad falls some way short here.

Ground investigation works (ie drilling and coring) are taking place this week in the stadium car park for the REP development.

Would that indicate a confidence that PP will be given ? Presumably you wouldn't incur expense if you didn't expect to get the go ahead from the council ?

I'd assume so. The data generated will be used for design optioneering in all likelihood, which would then affect the planning application depending on what is buildable/what remediation works need to be undertaken.

OK, I know nothing about planning. But would that mean they are getting into the very detailed design type stuff, more like Building Regs and the conceptual stuff like 'do we want this in Reading' or 'can the transport cope' isn't an issue ? It's now more 'will this thing stand up ' and 'are they using enough concrete' ?

I don't really know planning either I'm afraid. I work in ground investigation and was on site yesterday with two of the drillers who will be working at the stadium.
