There had begun to be trouble between numpties on both sides of the divide in the South!

There were loads of coaches.

We had to walk a bit. Get over it!

Number of people just standing staring at police vans that obviously weren't going anywhere was ridiculous. There were 19,000 people sent one way rather than have to push and shove past coaches blocking the road - it didn't matter.

If the police think it was worth doing, then it was worth doing. If there had been trouble we'd be asking why they didn't do anything to separate fans in the first place.

Royal & Ancient Can anyone tell me what idiot decided to hold back thousands of Reading supporters, including children and disabled, behind two lines of police vehicles, horses, police and stewards so that the 2000 Cardiff supporters could leave. Only at Reading could someone take a decision of such stupidity. At nearly every other stadium, where there is the potential for clashes the away supporters are held back, usually inside the stadium, so that home fans can get away.
Many would have missed their connections after this fiasco.
Explanations and apologies should be forthcoming.

So it would have been alright to hold the Cardiff fans back so they missed their connection? ME ME ME ME ME ME.

Just sayin'. It's alright - but if you were an away fan you want to get away as quickly as you can also. some people are so selfish. if you don't want any hassle or people getting in your way etc...then dont go to games.

Dan - B15 Royal
Harpers So Solid Crew .....Cardiff fans walking back into the home fans outside the retail park, a group of at least 20 singing and being loud, not a crime but often apossible flash point, so we crossed over and then back again.

i saw that large group of city fans, so kept my head down whilst walking past and didnt respond to their bait/chants aimed at us, as without any copper in sight things could of got nasty! poor planning by the club & TVP yet again, but we are use to that now arent we!

This always happens though. It seems once you're off RFC property they care a lot less until you're in town and around the general public. I'm surprised how little trouble there is on that bit of the A33.

Friday night was the quickest I have ever got away from the stadium. Left at the final whistle and was back in Henley at 10.15.

A few things:

Most new grounds have an area for containment outside the away end. Millwall and Cardiff have obvious ones. The appalling design of the Madejski makes it really difficult to contain away fans, or separate them from home fans down Hurst Way. On Tuesday night there will be a group of fans inconvenienced and kept back after the game. And it won't be the Cardiff ones.

Why was this police operation not announced in advance? I didn't hear any PA announcement about it (mention in previous posts) until I arrived outside the South Stand to be confronted by police vans. In any event, if it had been publicised before the game a lot of people, like me, would have made other arrangements.

Finally, the most brainless thing was the failure to move the police vans once the the road was reopened. I saw one young girl being crush against the side of a van as the crowds tried to squeeze through. The copper I spoke to said it was because the club "told us to leave them across the road an not move them". If true, it's staggering that the club can dictate to the police how to operate outside the stadium.

Yes, my point as originally made, was that this was not announced prior to the game. Or did the club meet with the police just before kick off and decide what they were going to do? I don't recall this happening after the Cardiff league game and I thought they brought more than 2000 fans to that.

Wasn't there disturbance last time, toilets ripped out, and this time also plebs attempting to goad us into a fight. I think a late decision was made to clear the YTS troublemakers out as fast as possible.

I think it was the Swansea fans wh ripped up the shltters.

Anyway I wasn't at all inconvenienced by this cos I was so drunk i dont recall such an emotion, but I do remember cardiff keeping us in their away end for about 20 mins when they beat us at the end of a season about 6 years ago.

I too was in the South Stand on Friday night. My view is that as some posters have stated, holding the away fans back would have been a fairer method of crowd control, as that is what tends to happen in these circumstances. If in their wisdom the police and/or club think that letting them go first will cause less issues, then fair enough, they should know what's best.

However, on Friday night, the police not only blocked the way between the two parts of the South Stand to keep us apart, but also blocked the road between the South and West Stands, leaving a gap of barely a few feet for 2,000 people to get through. That was an accident waiting to happen, and caused the general bad feeling.

If they wanted us to disperse, they should have given us more of a chance to get away.

WTF!? I didn't notice a thing, not a problem at all. Bus queue didn't take as long as I'd feared either.

Yet again Reading fans moaning again. It was announced during the match that Hurst Way was going to be closed until the coaches had left. For those that moan that this should have been communicated before the match well maybe some events led to the decision being made late?

Also I would guess that the club received a few complaints after the Derby game where there was also a lot of coach double parked and it was quite intimidating walking down there.

So we had to walk a little bit further and it was a but more busy than usual. Personally I would rather have that than a potential flashpoint around the coaches.....

Very hard to hear the announcement IMHO, lets hope the club look at all options in the summer. And communicate a bit better.

I originally thought this, but maybe the Reading fans in the South Stand had a bit more to put up with.

Why? Exit stadium, turn right and walk around in front of the hotel. So it was a bit further to walk but there again that is the problem with modern day society........

It wasn't especially practical to push your way back past everyone walking in the opposite direction. It shouldn't have been too difficult for the club to make it clear what was happening and how long the blockade was likely to be closed for/an announcement that could be heard by everyone directing all Reading fans to leave the other way.
