Don't bother with Wembley. Farringdon is a good shout and 5 Stops on the Met line from Wembley.

mr_number Most likely to be these if they stick with the normal split by end:

The Torch, 1 - 5 Bridge Road, Wembley, HA9 9AB
Crock of Gold, 23 Bridge Road, Wembley, HA9 9AB
Moore Spice, WembleyRetailPark, Unit 2, Engineers Way, HA9 0EH
Watkins Folly, 1 Empire Way, Wembley, HA9 0EW
Blue Check Café, 12 - 13 Empire Way, Wembley, HA9 0RQ
Alisan Bar/Metropolis, The Junction, WembleyRetailPark, Engineers Way, HA9 0EG
Crystal Club (Silverspoon), South Way, Wembley
The Parish, 120 Wembley Park Drive, Wembley, HA9 8HP
First Class Sports Bar, 125 Wembley Park Drive, HA9 8HG
The Wembley Tavern, 121 Wembley Park Drive, HA9 8HG
Flyers Last Stand (Cheers Bar), 45 Blackbird Hill, NW9 8RS

Looking at all the pubs on streetview the one that looks most like The Green Man is The Torch, none of the others even have a beer garden so can see them getting quite cramped.

Manze's on Tower Bridge Road if you want to do it properly m8 - bit of a hike up to Wembley from there mind you, but totally, totally worth it

There's another one in Chapel Market in Angel. Possibly slightly less of a trek.

Indeed there is, but the one on TBR is the original Manze's pie & mash shop, open since 1902

Are trains not stopping at Finchley Road on Saturday?

Don't get me wrong, I've a lot of time for the pubs in and around Farringdon, but it strikes me as an odd suggestion for (a) the weekend when many will be closed and others fairly dead, and (b) for Reading fans in main travelling from the other side of town.

There's a great pie and mash shop in London. Unfortunately I can't remember the name or where it is, but it's really decent stuff

You and Wiz should team up to write a travel book.

All I remember about the Snwansea game is being too bloody late for the Green Man!

For the Champions League Final though back in 13, I was part of the pre match entertainment. Before getting changed, we wandered into Moore Spice, which was really close to our changing area (Joysleep, in that mostly closed down retail park) and the stadium. This was on the Dortmund half, who were obviously using our pubs. So there was a dining area downstairs selling curry deals and a couple of bars up. That seemed pretty cool, but like everywhere I guess, get there early and order many drinks!

Do Arsenal have the TGI Fridays that's further round?

When I used to work in the Wembley Stadium industrial estate The Torch had a justified reputation for being pretty rough. Shame they knocked The Century down and put flats there instead.

Sadly Sweeney Todd's does not serve mash - it's the one thing that let's it down from being a proper institution in my mind. Never understood why they don't.

Trying to remember where we went for the Swansea game. Was it somewhere in Baker street ? I know it was full of Reading fans, food was a bit slow, and we left it a bit late to get to the game.

RG30 There's a Wetherspoons inside the complex next to Finchley Road tube station, only one stop away from Wembley

Closed down. No longer listed on the Wetherspoon's site or on the O2 Finchley Road site. The Walkabout on Finchley Road (where we went before the Swansea game) has also closed down :(

There's a Coast 2 Coast on the top floor of the shopping center in the next to the Hilton opposite the Stadium. Very generic bar, nothing special, but i was there on Friday for a drink with a friend, and totally forgot the England game was on. If you're not looking for it it's quite difficult to find so although it was busy, it wasn't "football pub" busy.

Dave-Royal CLUB WEMBELY :D

Dave, judging you on your grammar, mentality and general attitude, I don,t think you'll need to be worrying about where to go for a pre-match beer for probably another 10 years yet. But don't worry, they serve fizzy pop just about everywhere.

MR. CYNICAL Can't understand why so many Reading 'fans' seem to think that drinking on match day is so important.
I reckon half of the people at Charlton yesterday would not of gone if they could not get a drink.
If I wanted to have a few beers on a Saturday I would rather just stay in the local rather than some overpriced pub in London, then spend the whole game pissing and probably not giving a toss whether we win or lose!
Get the impression that most of you would swap a day out at Wembley for at least a whole season in League 1.
Any one would think that match days were the only time you are allowed out.

Having watched the Royals for far too many years, the alcohol is often the thing that makes the football bearable

Friend who went to the England game on Friday said there was no alcohol on sale within Wembley Stadium. No prior notification either - not sure why, but worth noting, just in case - though in my case, I always get tanked up before getting there and rarely drink at the stadium.
