I don't get how the online ticketing showed the upper west as sold out and yet at the game there was plenty of empty seats up there. :?

I think at least some were hospitality seats unsold.

I was sat next to about 10 of those empty seats, with loads of empty seats in front and behind, at the north end of the UW. They're normally taken as freebies by academy players and their families. I guess that they're effectively STs held by the club, although they always come in with paper tickets - strange that they weren't released for sale if they weren't handed out.

That too. It made a nice change not to be sat in front of some total numpty at their first Reading (or sometimes first football) match.
