Royal Lady Re: my comment - Because, I suspect, at the time of knowing we were playing City, people might have decided to get a cheap train ticket, thinking there would be no problem in securing a match ticket. Don't people do this all the time? Book their trains before getting their match ticket? Doesn't bother me, was just saying.

Exactly, they took a risk. Sometimes taking a risk pays off, sometimes it doesn't. It isn't the clubs fault if it doesn't as they don't have an obligation to sell you a match ticket.

ffs you're being dense aren't you? It wasn't the club's fault that some eejit bought a shirt with a player's name on that then left a few months later! But they settled out of court - cos they're too lazy to go and defend it. So, I'm saying it would serve them right if other fans did similar things, for eg train tickets.

Maybe they just had a change of heart but don't want to admit it... whatever the reasons are we won't ever know for certain. I'm also pretty sure that they know the law and therefore know that no precedent has been set.

As for being dense..........

Booking train tickets to an event you haven't got tickets to i s a risk. I took this risk and it paid off.
The problem is with the rail companies and the ridiculous advance discounts, not the club.
I think you can change your ticket for a fiver, just ring up and say the this wasn't what you ordered and buy a ticket to ipswich?

But it COULD set a precedent of loads of other fans trying their hand at suing the club for all sorts of things - even if the fans don't get very far, the club still have to defend the claims.

THey could do that anyway if they really wanted to. No precendent in law has been set hear. Plus as the majority of fans live in the Reading area I don't think the club would have any issue going to court in reading to defend it.

Who is being dense?

Is it you?

Costs are rarely awarded in Small Claims Court cases so I suspect the club would have an issue about defending lots of cases even in Reading as, even if they won them, it would cost a fortune.

no it COULDNOT... precedent is not set from county court judgments and small claims as already stated in this thread

A precedent in the way that other fans could jump on the "let's sue RFC" bandwagon. Jeez.

This is the first case of it's kind that we know of. I doubt there are hoards of people out there thinking "great now I can sue RFC" for that Trevor Senior shirt I bought back in 1987".......

Mountain, molehill - I'm sure you can add the rest of the words......

Frankly, was it worth it for the bloke??

Is getting the club you "support" to give you £72 really clever when it means that all the other supporters of that club think you are simply a tw@ of the highest order?

Incidentally, can the club get the little brats shirt back? Its theirs after all now..............and I really hope some Boro supporting ASBO at his primary school gave him a shoeing after Saturday.

Git.

The clubs decision to settle out of court is nothing to do with cost, or even the wrongs or rights - this is all about PR.

Win or lose in the court it would've been in the national press the following day. And probably all negative towards RFC, given the sum involved.

No doubt Mr Mcghee was hedging his bets, but have to mirror the majority on this thread, that we all know that players come and go and its no big shakes that we end up with departed players on the back of our shirts.

RFC should've just paid out in the first place, and then reviewed its T's & C's surrounding refunds on shirt sales, and made it very clear at all retail outlets / online, of that policy.
