Maybe we could have blue and white bunting instead of clappers then?

Why don't they use the money to make their portable trailer outside the stadium smell less disgusting?

Turns8 I think the biggest issue here is that due to the increased performances on the pitch, there is no need to have to 'try' and create an atmosphere with these 'gimmicks' which never work to their full extent as the idea is put forward and then half hearted carried out....sea of scarves being a prime example...as someone posted last week - "if they provide a scarf then great, if they don't I won't bother..."

The best thing that could have been organised would have been something similar to this:

Not only does it look good...it is easily achieved and simple yet effective in 'creating' an atmosphere...

TBH...I'm not overly bothered what STAR suggest...but these 'americanised' ideas don't really fit with a traditional English sport...and do make us look abit mickey mouse..

top post, and this is the view that STAR should be representing to the club, not just saying "if thats what you want to do we will get you some volunteers"

STAR have their own website do they not? They could have used that and this board to garner comments/votes about whether fans wanted them and taken it from there, but, instead, the club say jump and they do it. I've always been of the belief that STAR are not really there as the voice of the majority of fans and nothing has happened lately to make me change my viewpoint.

HNA? isn't the voice of the majority of fans either.

STAR neither asked for nor encouraged the club to get clappers for these matches, but believe it or not there are fans who like them. If you don't like them, don't use them and complain to either STAR or the club because there will be people writing to say what a great day they've had and thanks. They tend to take what anonymous online users think with a pinch of salt.

Maybe they do, maybe they don't but there does seem to be a few things recently that have appeared on here as complaints/suggestions/ideas and then the club acts on them in some way...Do STAR actually know for sure that no one from the club reads or takes notice of anything ever written on here? :| or are STAR so strong that it is in fact them who passes the complaints/suggestions/ideas onto the club?

^^^^ exactly.

The clappers are optional, they'll be handed out for fans who WANT to use them. I'm no great fan of them but if it helps improve the experience for younger fans and makes them want to come back then it's great. When I was younger I had one of those annoying giant foam fingers at Elm Park :D I'm sure it annoyed the bloke stood behind me but it was all part of the day out.

Well, if they're only being handed out to fans who want them that's fine and dandy, but in the past they have been left on all the seats.

They have at least one email explaining what a stupid idea it is, especially for palace. For F*** sake we could win promotion that day the atmosphere should not need any help at all!!

Sarah Star If you don't like them, don't use them.

FL, ask Graham when he's going to approve the user names so it can be updated regularly.

Or you could just send him an email yourselves and they'll be approved in no time.

If fans can only see evidence of STAR doing anything when the club pull out a gimmick like this then you can't expect those fans to show any kind of respect towards the work that STAR do. I've certainly never seen any point in joining STAR because I wouldn't use the coaches and I never see any value in anything else that they have done that I am aware of.

Sarah Star Are you perhaps alluding to safe standing, heavy-handed stewarding, filming of fans, reforming national football policy, the ineffectuality of the FA, the cancelling of buses on matchdays, or maybe something some may see as more trivial but fans get upset about none the less like hoops going all the way round the Reading Home shirt? STAR were actually contacting the people who could do something about it and that includes the club, the stewards, MPs, the police. I could go on further... price of tickets, access for the disabled, equality fairness... but that's not the way HNA? rolls so just forget it.

You seem to think just because STAR does this, they can't do anything else. Perhaps you should find out more about them before you make sweeping statements. I wouldn't take the word of anyone on HNA? about it.

Hi Sarah - are STAR doing anything about the Hoops-All-The-Way-Round initiative?

Looking forward to this. Free confetti to chuck :D

Royal Lady I would have thought that people on here are indicative of the wide variety of fans at our club. A swift poll would have helped gauge the popularity ( or lack of it) of this idea and STAR could have informed the club as such, thereby, possibly negating the ire which some people now appear to feel. Personally, it doesn't bother me, as I doubt I'll be using mine.

Roll your eyes all you like - we have the usual idiots, we have people who never disagree with anything the club says or does, we have outspoken people and we have people who all have an opinion - so we do have a cross section of fans - and polling a few people on here to guage the feeling of clappers is better, imo, than not bothering to guage anyone's opinion at all. So  right back at ya.
