Is your position that it was a decent crowd that the club will be happy with?

Not especially. I'd imagine the club would want to sell every seat.... and it seemed a fairly averaged size crowd (and suggested by the actual attendance figure !)

It isn't essential to adopt extreme positions on every issue though. A crowd that isn't a sell out doesn't have to be described as shocking, some astute transfer dealings don't have to be described as a firesale, a team scoring for fun and playing good football doesn't have to be described as dull and uninspiring.

Funny that some people think 18k is a poor crowd for Reading! If it was last game of the season and 3 points would guarantee promotion, fair enough. But it's another run-of-the-mill league game against mid table opposition from miles away. To get 17,500 RFC fans through the doors week in, week out, is astonishing. There can't be too many teams whose average has rocketed so dramatically over the last 15 years.

Personally, if the money was there, I'd have gone ahead with the first phase of the extension. We wouldn't have had many full houses, but I still think our overall attendence would rise, as it did when we moved from Elm Park in the first place.
