Southbank Old Boy
Ian Royal I don't see the problem.

I have 4 shirts from the last 15 years. My sister's son is a supporter and has been for about 4 maybe 5 seasons. He's had at most 2 shirts. I got him his first one, the reason he got the second was because i got the first one signed so he refused to wear it incase washing it washed out the signitures.

As Dirk said, kids constantly wanting the new thing is a parenting problem and nothing to do with the club.

Personally I'd like us to keep the same shirt for years, but that's only because with the constant changing we keep getting crap ones. Although if you keep the same ones for years it's quite possible you end up lumbered with a shit one for ages.

So if the club suddenly decide to put ticket prices up by 100% you wont think its a problem?

I cant say the move surprises me, but they made a commitment to keep kit changes to at least every two years and they know that in changing the kit again they will get a load of suckers to cough up more money to fill the coffers

If fans werent so stupid they wouldnt sell the shirts. Plenty are though so the club know they can prey on the weak willed and the stupid

Is it wrong? Maybe not but I dont think its an ethical or moral thing to do to a set of fans that have been short changed over the last 18 months or so

What's a ticket price increase of 100% got to with it?

Watching / supporting your team does not have to involve buying a new shirt every season. Buying a ticket for each game you go to is usually considered pretty essential.

A lot of our fans see having the most up to date kit as an essential part of being a fan too, why I dont know but they obviously do because they buy them every year in their thousands

Those buying the recent kits have done so in the knowledge that the club had made assurances that they would make kits last 2 seasons

Throwing in a replacement after just 1 season effectively doubles the price

Mid Sussex Royal On subject of replica kits, I have what I think may be the first year Reading sold exact replica kits - we were Div 3 then.

It's from around 1982 (as I have pictures of Neil Webb and Gary Heale wearing it) and the manufacturer is Osca - there is no shirt sponsor.

I think it was our last season in hoops before we played in Argentina kit for a couple of years.

Has anyone got an older replica royals top?

It was our last season with Waller as Chairman. We were eventually sponsored by the Chronicle. I thought it was a typo and that it should have read "Cronic". Osca also did Millwall's kit around that time.

Usually the away kit becomes third choice kit, you know that isn't the case this summer?

So we're bringing out three new kits this summer then!

Hmmm... not sure... I know some one who works in the megastore and they have seen the new designs and he said that the away kit was changing dramatically and this is where I popped up and said "so it won't be orange then?!" and he said "correct"

Also the design of the v neck will be going back the 07/08 season style of the bib type thing... apparently!

Yes, chances are the tango kit will be designated "3rd"... Although, what colour is our 3rd kit at the moment? Black is it? Whatever, we haven't worn it once this season.

Unless we play the NY Knicks then i dont see us ever using the 3rd kit!

I think its quite refreshing to have a new kit each season. Just wait a few months and pick it up for £20, which is a pretty standard price for a decent t shirt anyway.

Royal Lady I'm with you Southbank old boy. It's also pretty telling that they can flog the "old" shirts for such a cheap price, but the new ones will be near to £40. I can't believe they make much of a loss (if any) when they sell the old ones off. And they did give an undertaking to only have a new shirt every 2 years.

That goes for clothes in general though, and we all buy them.

Bought a shirt once that was £25 on the peg, but went through the till at £8. The shop admitted they hadn't yet marked it up from the price they bought it for.

Looks like one of the players got p*ssed, fell asleep in the street and got run over by the white lining machine!

Even RFC/Puma wouldn't deviate that far from the hoops! Actually they probably did with the 08/09 kit.
