Pay the £10 and you'll get a newsletter.

So much for Freedom of Speech.

Newsletter? Will that come before the window closes, or in October?

They should send an email out to all members a day or two after the fact. It can't be hard to write a summary up, Cypry managed to do it?

Agreed, and if they offered a detailed summary of events like this then I'd be tempted to join as it's very difficult for me to get to any of them. This I'm sure applies to many posters on HNA, but they don't offer such a service, and as a result many are grateful to generous minded people like Cypry who are willing to share what they learned to those who have a very active interest in the club.

The fact that someone who is in the position of representing RFC fans opposes this frankly baffles me. It's not going to stop people joining STAR because obviously there is no substitute for being in the room listening to Brian.

Also agreed.

I was a member, but there was little reason for me to extend for the next year. If they did send out an email after the meeting, instead of a quarterly newsletter (which would save costs if they sent only an email newsletter btw) or whatever they do, I would probably be more inclined to join.

Wimb Cypry made a mistake, it wasn't a heinous error nor is it something he deserves to get roasted over but a little  I feel is deserved for lacking a little bit of common sense. As he said, it wasn't said in the room but the 'whats said in the room stays in the room' idea has been used at previous forums and was mentioned by the club on the OS before the event. That coupled with the conspicuous absence of any general reporting (The clubs OS, GetReading, other posters here, The Tilehurst End, Twitter) might helped hint at the fact it wasn't for general publication

You absolute tit. Is the bloke supposed to scan other news outlets, social media, and your wretched blog before deciding whether or not to post up a series of bullets points, none of which were remotely scandalous or newsworthy? He doesn't deserve stick off the likes of you, STARHelm1871, or anyone else.

Believe it or not STAR used to actually post summaries of the Fans Forum on their website and I used to enjoy reading them. In fact, it was the only vaguely interesting thing they ever did.

Sit in a room and say something to 200 fans but complain if it gets passed on to 2000? Well, LOL basically.

Do you not think that today's world he would have expected it to appear on a public domain?

Of course some of it would have slipped out and got around, but most Reading fans wouldn't have published anything that might just come back to haunt him. Like I said earlier, obviously bits and bobs get out on twitter and in other threads but that's very different to a highly visible post detailing all on a public web forum.

The fact it took till 9am the next day for such a thread to come out shows that the vast majority of fans at the event understood it wasn't for general syndication before STAR or the club published something about it.

Silver Fox So has the Tilehurst End got exclusive interspaz rights then? Wimb seems awfully keen to get STAR's back

Oh behave, The Tilehurst End has nothing to do with it, I'm expressing my personal views that it's a shame if STAR can't offer a fans forum anymore due to Cyprys post because I (and I image everyone there) enjoyed going to it last night.

Perhaps it's selfish of me to enjoy a chance to hear our manager speak to the fanbase like it's a pub rather than a press conference, however when such an event can be so easily protected it's frustrating if they can't happen again.

Not being funny here, but its only a tenner. If STAR gave me a reason to join as a-big-RFC-fan-that-lives-nowhere-near-Reading then I would pay it. Sadly though, they don't.

Turns8 This just sums STAR up for me...a bunch of 'do-gooder' types who can basically organises coaches for those who don't have the means to get to away games and that's about it!!..they like to think they have some sort of power/voice for the fans which the club listen to. But let's face -it football is a business and no matter how much 'huffing and puffing' said 'do-gooders' do they aren't going to affect the running of the club, even more so with the new owners coming in.

It annoys me that a fairly new poster posts an innocent summary of last night which quite frankly contained very little 'top secret' info, yet the 'do-gooders' have got the thread removed... GET A GRIP...or alternatively, act responsibly towards those you supposedly represent and have the decency to post up your own summary, rather than get all cliquey about it...

Just a shame I didn't copy and paste the original thread as I'd be reposting it as we speak!!! :o

And to think they want new members...why would I want to join something and have to pay for it knowing that I can't talk about what's said... it's not the feckin' Freemasons or do they have some secret handshake and a special fleece!!!

Looking at the clip of the standing ovation to Big Mac, is there anyone under 50 there anyway? Bunch of nerds.

And myself, STAR or anyone else don't deserve stick for trying to make sure events like this can continue to go on either.

Beside from that you're utterly missing my point here. STAR have said they would have posted a summary of what was said at the event, they just haven't done it yet. My only point has ever been that it's a shame that someone in the room took it upon THEMSELVES to go and publish all the info.

Cypry didn't need to scan every ruddy outlet to see if was something that wasn't getting reported on. People here have been banging on about the fact news gets out quickly so I would consider something conspicuous by it's absence online. Like I said, I don't flame the guy for it or call him an absolute tit, I just felt it lacked a tiny bit of common sense in the circumstances, hardly a roasting of the poor guy.

I don't care that the information got out, but the club might, I have no idea you'll have to ask them.

starliaison Yes it is run by volunteers (not amateurs but people who have lots of other things to do)
What's the difference? NOTHING in this case

starliaison The fact that STAR members were trusted enough by Brian that he was happy to tell us more than anodyne press conferences (a special meaning to those who were there) is because of what we have done over the last 10 years.
I learnt more from talking to BMc directly after promotion vs Forest in the Purple Turtle at 4am than joining your poxy little clique.

Green Is wikileaks still going?

---

As little respect as I have for STAR, the stuff McDermott said last night was for more open and honest than he would be in a press conference and the fear is that these sessions will just be another press story. There needs to be a middle road but I can see why STAR wouldn't want everything said last night to appear straight away on the website that the local papers do their investigative journalism. Maybe if STAR offered some compromise and agreed a summary with the club (cant be too hard surely) then everyone would be happy.

Wimb, I really don't understand any of this.

Unless all of STARs members have to sign confidentiality agreements, how the hell do you stop it being posted in public forums. Yes STAR can fly about requesting posts are removed but there is nothing to stop anyone just reposting it in the same place or somewhere else.

Agent Balti Let's not fool ourselves folks, even what Brian tell us is a mere shadow of what really happens. He knows he's talking to adults, he knows how the media works and how people use modern day media. If he thought for one second that NOTHING he said in that forum would ever escape beyond those four walls, then he and STAR are just as guilty as poor Cypry.

He's not that daft or misinformed. If STAR wish to get all precious and take their ball away with veiled threats that the club may not offer such nuggets of gold in the future, then boo-hoo. It's not like any of that is actually worthy any newsworthy fodder, it's just a secret clubs chit-chat that wouldn't raise the pulse of any journo worth his salt.

^This.

Nothing said last night was a secret, will STAR now be targeting Johnny Fordham?
Apart from organising coaches and putting coloured card on seats what do they do?

Really? This whole "scandal" is about a new member asking for minutes of an organization's meeting? :?

Here's an idea then...why not copy, paste and then edit the OP and before you know it you've got your very own STAR version of events!!!

Or instead of trying to argue your pretty weak point on this thread, why not just get on with the summary...STAR are so slow to react to things and then they wonder why people get so annoyed!!!

Why wouldn't he? He's attended his first Fans Forum, found it interesting and passed a summary on to a (relatively small) group of other supporters. It's only a day later, no wonder he didn't wonder why there wasn't a thread.

Will Cypry be allowed to keep the film rights of his interview by David Frost?
