Well, they played the anthem AND Terry and June. Response from Reading fans? A BIG FAT ZERO.

The club listened and you did nothing! What more do you want? A thai prostitute giving you non-stop head for the entire 90 minutes???

TBF they played it 10-15 mins before kick off IIRC, when the majority were in the concourse....

I'm not sure what you were thinking we were expecting? A sudden outpouring of emotion as a spontaneous party erupted along the barely occupied stands. They played as I was coming in to the ground 15 mins before kick off to a half empty stadium and almost inaudible in the East Stand.

If they play it once and never again it'll get the response it got - if they continue to play who the hell knows (probably the same) but who does it hurt and if you have the number of that Thai prostitue can you pass it on as it'll probably make watching the game bareable.

So when are the club supposed to play it? 15 minutes INTO the game? I was purely responding to the ridulous outpouring of drivel on here about getting the anthem back. The club did. For what purpose? Judging by the drivel spouted, I would have expected some sort of reaction. Perhaps Roy Hodgson IS right

Fair enough - no-ones saying this campaign will have any effect or indeed whether the majority want it back but I don't think one wet Tuesday in December is a barometer one way or the other.

The campaign obviously had an effect - on the club as they listened. Shame the apathetic supporters didn't. At least we didn't have any screaming 8 year olds.

I noticed that as well. Why not play it as the players are coming out?

Because the first line in the song mentioned 2.45 pm....actually, given that the game didn't start at 3pm :!:

True, but the apathy means it needs to continue to be played to get some sort of reaction...possibly...

^This.

One swallow and all that.

Sweet Caroline had all the hallmarks of an anthem in making and they played it twice before cutting it from the playlist. What good is that?

Football days are built on routine. If a song's going to catch on among the masses, it needs to be inserted into that routine.

Agreed - that was the closest we ever had to something developing spontaneously, and being "of the moment" - which is the only way these things ever catch on.

But there seems to be something about Reading supporters in that they'll never give anything a chance and will noisily reject anything that's not their idea. And with thousands of people out there convinced that their idea is the right one - and thus the *only* acceptable one - then consensus is never going to be reached.

Genuine tear-to-eye stuff.

Dirkers, there will always be those for and those against, but if the club just decide that they're going to play Sweet Caroline before every game, come hell or high water, then the fans will get used to it. They just need to grow a pair and acknowledge that tradition isn't made over night!

Dont recall either the anthem or T&J played today. The drummers and their firm tried to get T&J going during the game but was flatter than Kate Moss.

I'm not sure I'd recognise Terry & June played on the drum. Sorry.

surely it doesnt take much organisation to play all the songs of the past- the anthem, sweet caroline, ashes, lord of the rings from the old prem video all in a row, leading up to the players coming out

got to be better than random r&b tunes of today

I believe that Sweet Caroline was the idea of one of the 2005-6 team (or maybe SC?) and it has very happy associations. It would be great to re-adopt that song and - even better - invite Neil Diamond to the MadStad to sing it......

If you had a seriously fit girlfriend in 2005 that had since moved on to a richer, more successful and better looking man would you still invite her back to a badly organised house party at your flat that only 8 of your 'mates' turned up to and everyone felt a bit awkward on the hope that she might still find you attractive?

move on son.

It would be nice to have some song which all the fans can sing along to just before kick-off. It really adds to the match day experience.
