Awat season tickets get my goat

by faithless the wonderboy » 02 May 2012 15:08

I don't undertsand the logic of the club selling away season tickets. It will potentially allow someone to buy a home and away ST and guarantee and a ticket to every premiership game next season. Thereby, favouring someone with a few quid over someone who has supported the team for a number of years but who may not have enough loyalty points to get into the first or second day of away ticket sales, whereafter tickets are likely to be sold out.

Added to this, I can't see an obvious the benefit to the club...they don't take the money for away ticket sales in advance so can't bank the money and as most away games will sell out they won't be generating any extra revenue from their cut of the takings (if indeed that is how it works).

On the basis that I have been a season ticket holder (STH) for a number of years, going back to the Elm Park days I am in a strong position as my Royalty points allow me to get tickets to pretty much any game I want to attend.

So can someone please explain the logic, because the away season ticket appears to be completely unfair?

Anyone can apply for an AST. Regardless of Royalty Points. It is a commitment to buy all away tickets with the added benefits of away cup games also coming as a priority. There is nothing unfair about the process. Something like 150-180 AST holders on average still mean plenty of ticket availability. It was only West Ham onwards where allocation and demand were not met.

How is it unfair?

If someone is prepared to commit to every single away game over an entire season then as far as i'm concerned they deserve a ticket more than me, because i'm not.

And I seriously doubt most away games will sell out. Can't see many people rushing to Stoke or Sunderland on a Tuesday night.

Reading very rarely sell-out their away allocations. You've said you are a STH and have been for a long time, so you will have substantial royalty points to ensure you get an away ticket to the majority of away games, so stop crying and get on with it!

Advantages to fans: guaranteed tickets, no need to queue up/log in, regardless of Royalty points

Advantages to club: fewer people in queue, quicker processing, good indicator of potential away support for season (2006/7 = 1,000 ASTs, 2007/8 nearer 200 ASTs)

Win/win.

If you want to guarantee yourself a ticket to every league and cup game, get one. If you don't want to, don't.

Fair do's...it appears it's only me that thinks it's unfair, so i shall go back in my box and post my next message sometime in about 2013 :)

you could argue the same about a someone with no loyalty points being able to buy a season ticket getting priority on home games from someone who has lots of Royalty points from nay reasons on a Royalty card.

If someone is prepared to commit to buy a ticket for every away game, I am fine with that.

We all have equal opportunity to make that commitment.

It's worth buying an away season ticket and a home ticket even if you don't got to the games in we get to the cup final or to ensure a ticket for Man Utd at home.

I agree with the OP to some extent - with unlimited wealth, then why not sign up and go to only the best games.

Yet I'd imagine very few bandwagon jumpers will be aware of away season tickets/able to attend many northern games anyway, so its more likely to only be those who actually go to almost every away game every year, regardless of wealth.

I can't see many people can do it though - if you have the money you are probably too busy earning it to go, and if you have the time you possibly don't have the money. Pensioners with ipads and nice cameras etc however will probably go for this one though, and fair play to them eh Snowball?! Its a great committment to support our team all over the country, and as you drive home late from the office one Tuesday night listening to Tim Dellor, it would be a bit churlish to be jealous of away season ticket holders.

Also the premierleague is not really a glamourfest anymore - it will only be difficult getting tickets to Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea and Fulham and frankly you won't see Reading much in some of those games!

Or simply you bang in the overtime and work your professional life around all the matches. It works out but only just.
It depends on priorities and commitments.

I had an away season ticket first season in the prem. Was such an amazing year, will never forget it. Me and my uncle decided to do it because we thought that could be the only time we would ever see Reading in the prem. :?

Reading will not be accepting any new applicants to this years away season ticket scheme. The scheme will only be offered on a renewal basis for those members who were on the scheme for 2011/12.

Soz lowerwestjr. I don't agree with this new policy. Although the club are "thanking you for your continued support", I don't see why they want to exclude anybody else willing to join.
WHY?

I'd hazard a guess that it's not worth the effort for them
