A room in a Premier Inn centre of Cardiff is over £100. Nobody is saying this isn't doable - but for some what would have been a perfectly manageable day trip on a Saturday becomes an expensive pain in the neck on a Friday night.

Actually you can get two advance singles (i.e., there and back), certainly on a Saturday, for £40. Not sure what point you're trying to make here

The OP is correct, football matches should not be rescheduled to disenfranchise the match going fan who wants to use public transport.
