5th Most Expensive Season Tickets in FPL

by TommyF » 03 Aug 2006 08:40

I know there has already been much discussion, but the Daily Mail today lists season ticket prices by club and Reading's chepest season tickets at £545 for Adults is the 5th most expensive 'cheap seat' in the league. Only Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham charge more for the cheapest season tickets.

That means it costs more that Chelsea, Man Utd and Newcastle amoungst others.

Good news on the junior front though is that we're only the 9th most expensive for junior season tickets.

Can this really be justified? We probably have some of the lowest wages and we've not exactly splashed out big time have we? Are RFC still putting the fans first? I believe they have successfully done so over the last few years but now have my doubts.

It can be justified as we've sold 18,000 of them.

Exactly, it's the fairly simple economics of supply and demand surely.

After looking at just two other clubs, Portmouth's cheapest is the same as ours whilst at Chelsea only a ticket in the family section is cheaper - the next price up is over £800.

Most clubs have a higher capacity though so will still get more than money than us despite a slightly cheaper price.

Comparisons really need to be made with clubs with similar capacities, like Portsmouth, to see if ours are too expensive.

Yes, because people who have spent 20 years following Reading were not about to say 'Maybe I'll skip this season as the prices have got so high'. RFC knew this and have taken full advantage of it. Where were the offers of renewing tickets for the same price before the season was up 'incase Reading get promoted'? The year they know we will the offer disappears because they know this is what the fans have been dreaming about and WILL pay the money. Does that make it right though?

great.. more kids wasting valuable seats.. lets face it they haven't got the attention span to last 5 mins let alone an hour and a half..most of them sit reading "heat" and texting their mates sitting next to them , plus they get up for 2 litres of coke every five minutes..and that's just the girls..actually it's just the girls..maybe girls junior season ticket should be 800 quid or something to deter only but the richest folk

It's the EPL not the FPL.

It's the Daily Mail  What is the average season ticket price comparison?

The Mad Stad doesn't have 'cheap seats'.

Oh, and should be in club policies - not team

That said, how do Portsmouth, Wigan, Fulham, Watford and Charlton’s prices compare as they have ground capacities of between 20-27k? Not too dissimilar to us.

Welcome to the world.

RFC is a business they knew that £545 was high but they also knew it was towards the upper limit of what people were willing to pay. The fact that most people have proves that in some ways they were right. In the long term though, it may not prove to be the wisest move but thats another discussion.

I live in London and with two young children cannot get to as many games as I would like, and having been a supporter since the Elm Park days when Reading used to be in the old Divison 4, now find that I cannot get in by just turning up. This is however my fault for having a young family. However, you are forgetting one thing here - most of the older stadiums around have areas where the view is limited - I include Chelsea, West Ham, Tottenham and Portsmouth in this category - at Mad Stad we are fortunate to get an excellent view from wherever we sit. Surely that has got to be better than paying £50 less and not being able to see large parts of the pitch because you are behind a pillar or stuck down behind the corner flag at pitch level.

Where do we come on a list of the most expensive seats?

Not talking hospitality of course, but how do the Upper West pirces compare with the more expensive seats at Premiership grounds?

As I said, that is in the family section, so you would also need to buy concession tickets to be able to go in there. The next cheapest is £325 in one of the corners of the stadium, then £475 to be at either end of one of the stands, and then prices continue upwards as you go towards the centre of the stands ending up at £550 for the most expensive. But despite these relatively cheap prices they haven't sold out.

I assume those are match ticket prices, if so Arsenal beat them comfortably with a match ticket price of £94 (I think).

... and I wouldn't change things for the world. They probably cost me more than a season ticket a year but I get the enjoyment back 24/7 and not once every three or four years when we get promotion
