Old Reading Shirts?

by International Royal » 01 Nov 2006 19:38

I'm not sure where to put this on the board, hopefully here.

I travel a lot for work and in the past year have been in Africa, Middle East, the Far East & Asia.

As a Reading fan I thought I would float the idea of gathering up old Reading shirts and take them to Africa for local kids. If anyone has any that are worn out, grown out of, or their children do, that they would like to donate just express your support on this thread.

When I go to Nigeria and in particular Sudan (where I am currently) I often bring an old (boot sale) suitcase with kids clothes in that a few mothers get together for me. I then deliver them to street kids (orphans) homes where it is always appreciated.

It's when travelling in some remote African villages that I see the odd football shirt - Brazilian mostly, some Italian & French shirts, also Man U (see not just in Devon & Surrey) and the like. Never seen a Southampton shirt though!

Having some Reading shirts to give would be great. I could take some photos and stick them on here. See the Royals around the world!

So if there are any shirts (just youth or children sizes really) that people would like to donate to a good cause let me know through this site. If there is sufficient interest then I will think about how to collect them through family that still live in the area (they don't know that yet).

If this is straight-up why don't you make if official and speak to STAR who can organise a drop off point before the game. If you're after old shirts from Reading fans there will probably be a lot more Arsenal/Man U shirts than hoops

M4 Junction 11 - "How dare you" (in a Peter Kay voice). Hey listen, it's no big deal just a simple idea. If I get a dozen kids shirts or even half a dozen I'll throw them in the case. They'll brighten some childs day and here they won't care if there is 'Courage' written on the front or what type of collar it has.

I have three already and my teenage son doesn't know that yet either.

this is a very good idea. I agree with the STAR idea though too, a few e-mails to STAR and maybe even the evening post and the club could get u a lot more shirts. Get peopleto drop them off at STAR HQ at a certain match and get a member of your family to pick them up from there.

Even if you can't take them all in one go, you will get more this way.

This was done a few years ago, and I gave a few then, trouble is that now old shirts are worth money, and you have not exactly been here long so why would we pass shirts to you?

The Mega Store will have some 'end of line' t-shirts and provided you can guarantee they wont find there way back into the country they might be persuaded to part with them ... for charity. Well you can only ask.
