2007/2008 Pre-season trip - Any ideas

by Topfan05 » 16 Apr 2007 15:42

Its time the rumour mill got grinding away on the venue(s) for this year's away jolly to pastures akin to the third div if recent trips to Sweden are anything to go by.

Some might say South Korea is a sure bet, then again some might say Seol has been playing with soul, all we know is he's pining for some labrador.

Then again the good ol' US of A could beckon to those who can qualify for a visa, wonder how many fishtanks would pronounce they've met some dudes from Reeeding?

Anyone got some north or west stand ideas, sorry hobbits from south stand don't qualify in this........

I didn't understand it either, I think he's trying to imply that the South Stand is The Shire.

I believe that there was a report in the EP that the club had a number of options under investigation which included S Korea, Seattle, Washington and somewhere else that I can't remember !

Personally I'd love a trip to the US although Korea would be interesting.

There is also the rumoured Cork trip....

There would be no point in coming over here with the intention of playing fewer than three friendlies: one or two against MLS sides, maybe one against a Mexican club and definitely serving as the opposition in the MLS All-Star Game --which since January has been inked to be CeLOLtic (and on a Thursday nite, no less  ). Playing in the ASG would be the ultimate profile-raiser, and I cannot see the club making the trip otherwise.

That aside, I would think that anything other than Sweden-as-usual would've been announced already in any case. Looks a "wait'll next year" proposition for those of us here.

I don't think it's rumoured, I believe it was part of the Alan Bennett deal.

I also understand that the club have been asked about this and have confirmed the the "Alan Bennett deal" is a rumour.

This has been said before so I am sorry if I deserve a "whoosh".

Pre the Liverpool game last week , Nigel Howe, in a Radio Berkshire interview used words to the effect that the pre season would more than likely be in Asia, although the States were an option that had been considered.

Given JM's want to sell the club to the right buyer, his business connections in that area of the world, and the huge marketing potential in Asia, I would imagine pre season there would be a good bet.

I heard this too but I'm sure he discounted the US altogether although other parts of the Americas were a possibility. Asia looks to be the favourite though.

Let's go to Swindon , Oxford, Aldershot and finish our pre season trip with a booze up in Doddy's bar.

Nigel Howe also talked about pre-season games in a radio phone-in a while back (not 107fm the other one). The Cork rumours have been discussed at length on another thread.

Their going to South Korea for that Peace Cup, held by our good friends the Moonies. Think Bolton and Man City did it last year. How times have changed, to think we used to pay to go on tours..
