Minutes silence...

by Shaka's Giant Hands » 09 Nov 2008 11:48

Did I miss yesterday's minutes silence? I don't remember it...but then again I was trying to get to my seat through the 6 stewards all of which wanted to see my ticket!

No you didn't miss it. I was very surprised, and saddened, that the club didn't have one. I noticed they had one at the Arsenal game and as I said on the other thread, I can only think that it was a Premier League directive and not a FL one to have the minute's silence. But when we have had minute's silences in the past for dead footballers, people killed in terrorist attacks etc, then the minute silence for remembering all those who had died in fighting for this country's freedom should be mandatory imo.

Would like to know the club's thinking on this, seemed to be at most other grounds

I agree. I was surprised and disappointed. Prem and FA Cup games had it so why not Ch. Club should have arranged it regardless of lack of directive.

Commentator on Sky Sports said as has been everywhere we'll be having a minutes silence

Did the referee just forget or something!?

The bristol city - southampton game had a minutes silence. I assume most of the other championship games had one too.

Why has my post here been deleted?

For rightly saying the club are out of order on this matter...?

sign of the times maybe?

Went to my boys' school assembly on Friday, not one teacher was wearing a poppy and apparently no reference to the significance of the 11th has been made to its pupils.

Additionally, they do not sell poppies at his school anymore.

We asked for a minute's silence this morning and the ref informed us that we wouuld have one. It was nice to see Palmer Park stood in silence.

Absolute disgrace. RFC should be ashamed.

Have to say I was also pretty surprised and disappointed at the game, and sort of assumed no club was having a silence. Am awaiting with interest the official response on this one...

I also thought that Hunts 'machine gun/shooting' goal celebration rather tasteless.

I don't rememeber it being Remembrance Saturday.

I'm sure Noel, like many of us, stood silent or at least shared a thought for those we've lost, yesterday.

On the weekend when we remember those that gave their lives (vast majority through being shot) it was bad taste. Not sure it would ever be good taste and I'd hope that the players hadn't considered the timing when planning the celebration.

I feel the goal celebration was an unfortunate coincidence and one which I'm sure wasn't supposed to cause offence.

The lack of a minute's silence was disgusting.
