Clearing snow at the training ground

by STAR Liaison » 14 Jan 2010 16:45

Is anyone free tomorrow (Friday) and willing to help clear snow at the training ground so the team can train on Monday?

The clearing is not going as fast as hoped and so the club is looking for 6 volunteers as they have another tractor coming for Friday.

Mail me on info@star-reading.org this evening with a contact number and I will pass them on to the club for instructions. Do not just turn up at Hogwood as you will not be able to get in.

In the 'olden days' they would have got the players to clear the pitch before they started training.

Players of today just don't know how cushy they have it!

That is possible but if the thaw doesn't happen?

Training on the Mad Stad pitch is possible until the moans come in about playing on it too much.

Funnily enough your points have been thought about but the decision was to try to clear the snow on Friday

Yeah, but you fail to take note of my location at present - The Fylde Peninsula. Therefore OUT.

Yes, if they come and clear Cantley so we can train on Monday.

Isn't this why we built a dome?

I would imagine they have been using the Dome ensuring that there has been decent training throughout the cold spell.

But it's not a full size pitch, it's not grass, it's indoors etc etc and therefore not quite the same as training in 'proper' conditions.

TheMaraudingDog STAR - whores of RFC.

have to 'gree tbh, its supposed to be a supporters trust, i.e -for the supporters, not be running round doing odd jobs for the club.

It's been proven time and time again that our supporters trust is incapable of standing up to the club in the boardroom - our lot bending over and parroting the club rhetoric about finances, ticket prices etc. But now the club has them out hunched over shovelling snow

I await the day when someone gets off their arse and sets us up a proper supporters club.

Correction it has them asking the folk of HNA to shovel snow, FWIW i have been moving a bit of snow and slush about today, but it is down my and my parents roads, so that things are easier and faster to clear.

The club has to be run as a business, so do what a business would do and pay people to move the snow, or perhaps they wouldn't in case they got sued for doing it wrong.

Portsmouth gave out free tickets to their snow-shovelling volunteers and, by all reports, they are even harder up than RFC!

Perhaps this is an over reaction, but we normally get locked out of Hogwood and now they want us to clear the pitch!

TBH you would have to be a complete mug to toil away like a peasant whilst the players rocked up in £30,000 luxury cars. If they want the pitch cleared then pay someone to do it - better still the players or reserves could lend a hand. STAR should have have laughed this all the way back to the megastore.

To be fair, this is the sort of thing that youth team players used to do in years gone by. What's changed...?
