Online ticketing nonsense

by Nobby » 05 Mar 2010 22:34

The current online ticketing system looks great now that they have improved it. But it's a con.

You can choose your own seat which seems brilliant.

But I once knew someone who sells this kind of software and apparently it's all a deliberate hoax. They simply don't show you all the tickets that are remaining.

It's made to make you think you had better hurry to buy the few good seats available. I thought this was unlikely but it's clearly what they do.

Anyone who has looked at the seats available for the Villa game in the last few days will have seen that there are lots of seats available today that weren't available yesterday. I don't understand what good that is meant to do but someone with a degree must have thought it a good marketing ploy.

I was trying to get an idea how many seats were sold but it seems there are more available now than there were on Wednesday.

There are always some retained for sponsors etc, who usually only confirm how many they actually want a day or so before - so any spares then go on sale.

No great conspiracies or attempts to maniupulate anything .......

I cant see many that were not available, East still sold out as is West other than a few in front of the restaurant, which is as DG says hospitality, as is the bit up the other end.

I am all for a conspiracy theory, but this one holds less water than a sieve.

This is true actually the other day i checked and although it displayed tickets in GU1 and another west block as being available, when i went to select a seat they weren't available, wasn't bothered cos i'm not going but i was browsing for a friend and he wanted to sit in West, as a result he's made other plans and now both blocks show tickets available!

I'm struggling to see how this idea would be any kind of 'con'.

I went online to book a seat for the Villa match, My season ticket seat was reserved (for me) so I couldn't book it!

Reading FC - If you reserve seats for season ticket holders would it not be a good idea to allow them to actually book those seats? I ended up calling the ticket office instead, who gave excellent service with no delay in taking my call (maybe a different story once on general release)

You need to go to pre reserved tickets on the online ticketing page.

But it stopped anyone else buying the seat.

But to be fair, it would be even better service if the site made it clear where you need to go and perhaps offered a link through from where FL not unreasonably looked. Not everyone knows its workings inside out, particularly newer season ticket holders.

There is a large box to click in that says "Pre-reserved tickets" on the online ticketing home page.

How much effing clearer can they make it?

Maybe some people don't realise their ST has been pre-reserved by the TO for them? Just a thought.

Mentioned this to Forbes today, he was hardly embarrassed. The club tell you the seats are reserved, assume they are then find them.

Why should you need to go to a special pre-reserved tickets page?

when you do click on it, it starts out with your pre-reserved ticket already in your basket. Couldn't the ordinary ticket selection page just do the same thing?

They are trying to be helpful and make it as easy as possible, unfortunately a few will always want it done another way and those ones are always the most voiciferous........

It's not if you just go to the "buy tickets" page.

I just remember because it caught me out once, although I could recall it'd worked before, so I persevered and realised my mistake.
