You don't let Broadmoor patients out just because they don't really mean to do it.

Pepe the Horseman So we should be trying to help him, not punish him.

Would be pretty disappointed if both were not done tbh. All this talk of 1-2 year ban is mental. Just ban him like he was before, maybe an international tournament too, and then make him seek professional help.

Although I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you...

I didn't see anyone suggesting Ben Thatcher should get help after his forearm smash on Mendes, or that Joey Barton should get help for continually being a oxf*rd etc etc. Why is Suarez's lack of control being treated as mental health whereas anyone else's gets them condemned as a thug?

Its a fair point I suppose. I guess I am basing it around assumpions that Suarez was not in control and Thachers forearm hit was premeditated.

Easy assumptions to reach though when one is something you see people do premeditated quite a bit (though not on the pitch) and the other is so unusual it looks weird and bizarre to watch

You would think given this isn't even the 2nd occasion that Suarez has presumed to have bitten someone, why hasn't he sort help after the 1st or 2nd incident and if he has and he is still suffering then why is he allow to continue pursue a career in something that sees him do this?

When Mike Tyson proved to be a biter he got a £3m fine and lost his license for a year. Seems fair. If he had gone on to bite another two people I'm sure he wouldn't have been boxing after that.

Maybe Suarez should find an alternative career. He's had counselling at Liverpool and it hasn't changed him. In the heat of the red-mist moment he bites, and stamps on opponents. I don't see how that will ever change. Maybe he's just not cut out to have a job that involves physically sparring with others in a high pressure situation with tightly defined rules. Most councellors would surely recommend avoiding the triggers that cause the problem.

What happens on the 4th biting incident? Or the 5th?

At some point I can see him getting a life ban.

biting people isnt really enough to get you into broadmoor

you'd probably go to some local non secure unit instead.

Bearing in mind (a) that it was 0-0 at the time and (b) that he dived, I thought it was a premedit8d attempt to provoke a reaction to allow him to dive for a penalty

Were the first two bites of his career also premeditated? You would have though by now he might have given up on this strategy.

Flyingkiwi
Sutekh FIFA should fling the book at him and ban him from all levels of football for 12 months.

They won't do that. Liverpool would sue their arses off.

Then Liverpool would get their arses handed to them in court.

If he needs help then idiots like his national team captain and his Lawyer need to stop excusing his behaviour and be the ones to start doing something to help him.

This story from Uruguayan newspaper Subrayado suggesting some high-ups from S.American football are also pressuring FIFA to be lenient with it's decision, not just the Uruguayan officials. Some of the explanations/defence of his actions are priceless when you translate it, especially the last paragraph "No convincing evidence"  Loads of amusing anti-England stuff going down elsewhere in there 'English Pirates'

Anybody know to what extent this minor incident has been reported elsewhere other than in Italy where they are looking at excuses for their own failure and (amazingly) thought that the sending-off of their player was harsh.

The front-page headline in O Globo, Spain, was "El Loco."

And there is a piece on the Brazilian press reaction here: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... es-3761333
