Italian 90 was great for everything except the football.

Cameroon's shock win over the Argies. Francois Oman Biyik. Cameroon defenders trying to cut Cannigia in half. That Roberto Baggio goal. Toto Schillaci's eyes. Platt's volley. Ireland's shootout win and . Voller and Riikjaard. Gazza's tricks and tears.

Maybe I just remember it well as it was the first tournament I really took notice of. Wasn't short of drama though.

(and a 0-0 draw settled on penalties can be a great game, sometimes).

The Romanians beating Argentina is still one of the best games (at least in my memory) I've ever watched on TV. A great team to watch.

If I had watched 2014 as a kid, I think I'd have loved it. It was the best post-90s one by a mile.

Precisely, it was a great tournament, full of shocks and high drama and there were moments of great skill but overall, the actual football on show was the worst of any tournament I can remember.

I loved Argentina 78, first tournament I really got in to and just seemed a different world to english football, some sensational goals, shame Argentina's 6-0 win of Peru was subsequently tainted to the suggestion of match fixing

Mexico 86 was fabulous, was working in London sharing a house with 3 other guys, matches were circa 11.00pm and 1.00am and we watched them all, were zombies by the end of the group stage. One of England's better efforts, our neighbours called the police during England 3-0 Poland as they thought some massive fight was going on with all the shouting

One of England's better efforts, our neighbours called the police during England 3-0 Poland as they thought some massive fight was going on with all the shouting

Those 11 pm kick-offs probably weren't the best preparation for my O Level exams taking place at the same time.
