Yes.

Why do you think Gary Neville and Lee Dixon disagree with you Ian? Is it because you have more football knowledge and experience than they do?

Royal Rother
Sanguine The thing is, Rothers, if Southgate sets up to 'take the game to Spain', we'll probably get twanked 4-0 and the manager will rightfully get pelters for his naivety. If we win on Sunday, it's unlikely to be a pretty game, as it may likely involve Conor Gallagher and packing the midfield to try to stifle them. Not all caution is bad.

Hmm, yeah, I can see that.

Just really really don't want to see us try to stifle them and still lose! :D

At least for the first 45 minutes RR we had the entertainment that you and I crave aided by the Dutch (as Southgate said afterwards) not closing us down as the minnows in the group stage did so we could dominate the ball.
The Dutch midfield is weak, unlike the Spanish with top players Rodri, Ruiz and Olmo, and on balance of play (apart from the dreadful penalty decision according surprisingly to English-biased Matterface, Dixon and McCoist as well as Keane and Neville) we deserved the win.

BTW, much credit to Southgate for bringing Mainoo in who has been very successful in the limited Kalvin Phillips role.
Big decisions now to be made by the manager on whether to start Kane and Shaw

For what it's worth, I'd be absolutely livid if that penalty was given against us, but it not a clear error. And looking at the big picture, tournament winners are always lucky. In my lifetime, I've seen Koeman's mugging of us as a player in 93, Gazza missing by a toenail in '96, Rooney breaking his foot in the QF '04 (I still think we would have won that tournament otherwise), Lampard's goal.

Maybe this is the year these things go our way - it's impossible to win a tournament if they don't.

Also to add the ‘goal’ at Wembley in the 1966 final.
