Club v Country

by LUX » 10 Jul 2024 12:46

Good time to ask this, with a sniff of England glory tonight.

Who do you care more about, England or RFC?

Other nationalities/ allegiances can answer for their own circumstances.

Me, I love England, watch every kick with joy/ fear/ecstasy and agony.

But I vote RFC. It’s more personal.

Man Utd every day of the week.

I don't feel massively English. My parents aren't and I lived most of my life outside of England

A bit like I have the capacity to love both of my children, I don’t see why I would have to choose
I’m a fan of both

Mrs F is taking that to an extreme now by adding Spain

100% club.

But, I think the only things I'd want for Reading over an England tournament win is:

1) Ownership change going through to rid us of Dai and guarantee our future.

2) RFC major trophy win, like FA or League Cup.

3) RFC Play Off Final victory at Wembley

For me: Club.

For the benefit of my fellow countrymen: Country.

Always want to see England do well, mainly because it’s good for pubs. The ultimate cash cow for the pubs would be an English tournament victory.

Country

It's the whole country coming together rather than just a few of the regulars from AE down the Bree Louise (RIP)

Not clearcut really. I'd choose Reading "Doing a Leicester " or even a Wigan and winning the FA Cup over England winning a major tournament. But it needs to be something exceptional. In terms of realistic achievements, England winning a major tournament will top anything Reading will do given I've already seen us win the Championship twice. The whole country gets behind England; friends, colleagues, extended family. It would be a huge celebration. By contrast, I only really have a few people to celebrate Reading wins with.

For this reason I think it also makes a difference that Reading have never won anything major. Once Reading had won the premier league or the FA cup they would officially be a ‘big club’ forever.

If you’re already a big club like Liverpool or Man Utd than who really gives a f/ck it you win the league again. Gotta be country all the way for those types of big club supporting weirdos.

Maybe someone sent it to one of your really old Hotmail accounts knowing you never check it.

No, haven't watched any match in the whole tournament other than potted highlights of the odd game on the BBC website when something debatable had happened.

Yeah I was joking, dunno what your point was.

I wasn’t there, probably because I was young enough to not be working a full time job and waste my working life on HNA?
