so if they have already got a play off place, why are they trying to qualify again? What happens if they lost all 10 games 8-0? Do they still have that play off??

On,y one team in each group will qualify through the play offs. So if England finished third in their Euro qualifying group they would have a second chance of qualifying if they win the League of Nations play offs.
If England finish first or second in their Euro qualifying group then they will not take part in the play offs as there will be no need. Their place in the play offs will then be taken by the next highest team in their League of Nations group, ie Spain. What I am unsure about is if Spain have also qualified what happens next. Do Croatia then take part in the play offs? However if they have already qualified too.....

Silver Fox I was under the impression that the winners of the Group A playoff (aka Nations League final) don't actually get a Euro 2020 place?

The winners of ALL FOUR Nations League group play offs get a Euro place.
Just to clarify qualification process, the link below sets out the whole deal

Silver Fox Good game last night, McLeish stays for now. Although if he fvcks up qualifying for 2020 does he get the boot and then the new man gets a free playoff?

Silver Fox So the 4 teams in the Nations League finalsare also in the League A playoffs if necessary?

Yes but my understanding is that the Group A play offs take place next June before the Euro qualifiers finish in November. The play offs in the other groups take place in Match 2020 after the Euro qualifiers have been completed.

Silver Fox Yeah, next June is the Nation's League finals, then in March all 4 groups playoff for the last 4 euro places, although the next confusing bit is how low down in group A do you go if the 4 group winners have already qualified?
