Echo most of that. It's a crying shame that welbeck, who'd actually played well defensively got no where near his man leaving Baines overloaded in no mans land. Then good movement left cahill and johnson all over the place.

Rooney just doesn't seem interested in putting the work in off the ball. He's static and clueless defensively. Sturridge is a far greater threat upfront with his pace. Stirling, ox and barkley far more threatening in the hole with their direct running. Lallana far more skilled and disciplined on the left. Welbeck far harder working on the right.

yes he crossed for our goal, he is a good player but he doesn't fit and he's the obvious weak spot in our team.

Sorry but Italy were class and for all the talk of lessons learned from two years ago Pirlo once again ran the show with his markers who we were told were going to stick to him like glue getting nowhere near him.

That was a master class from Pirlo.Never looked as though losing the ball or misplacing a pass was an option.

I keep calling it and yet again Stirling was shite. Many others were but don't get why people think Stirling played well.

70% pass completion in opposition half.
3 shots, all 3 off target.
Zero chances created.
7 crosses attempted, 7 unsuccessful.

Not bad for an attacking creative player I guess.

Poor chap, he's finding it hard enough to handle Joe Root's double century, now Raheem Sterling produces a great display for England whilst Wayne Rooney looks more and more past it with every game....

Tough times.

Yeah.... must have missed that pass for Rooney to help set up the goal then.

Not sure what that pass (a great pass) has to do with my points?

You said he created zero chances, pretty sure playing a killer pass through the defence to Rooney counts as one. Secondly, he nearly scored with a terrific shot.

Couldn't give two shits about Rooney. Nice to see Root help himself to some easy runs though.

LOL. Rooney created the goalscoring chance in that move you moron. Good ball though by Stirling. Nearly scored? You mean the shot that was well covered by the keeper and flew a foot wide into the side net?

You can keep up your act of jealously. Just because he had a terrific season for your rivals whilst you sat at home watching your Manc losers bottle it on Sky. Anyone could see he had an impressive game yesterday.

Created our goal. It was the exceptional through ball that made it, not the good cross. Worried Italy with direct running and took on his man. Easily one of the best England performers.

Certainly drifted out of the game more when he was switched out wide though.

Was quite an enjoyable game.

God that BBC commentator was such a wimp, almost apologetic that England were even playing in that game, what a fcukin pansy.

3 top class goals which were well worthy of both teams. England lacked that extra bit of class and composure in the areas that matter though and Rooney continues to show very little in the way of being deserving of his place or reputation.

Sturridge was great, a real threat all evening. All in all a good effort against what is a thoroughbred World Cup nation.

Mr Angry As Winchester Royal posted earlier, we don't HAVE to beat Uruguay, merely not lose.

To a large extent that depends on Costa Rica Vs Italy. If that match is a draw then it would be handy to beat Uruguay. If Costa Rica win then it's almost essential that we beat Uruguay.

Why all this focus on Rooney, if he'd taken his chance he'd be our hero, he got himself into the position to create the opening.

It was Wellbeck that switched off then couldn't be arsed to make up the ground, that left us so exposed for the 2nd goal

I thought Woy was brave leaving Gerrard out of the starting XI.
