Escobar was shot dead after conceding an own goal, if I recall.

Winner: Germany

Runner-up: Brazil

Surprise package: Chile (It's their continent so can handle the heat, already put on a great performance at Wembley recently. Dark horses for me.)

England: Group Stages

Top Scorer: Suarez/Neymar. Both with 6.

Royal Prince Côte d'Ivoire

Nice easy group (Colombia, Greece & Japan), then who knows where they could go should they progress? They have some real attacking talent (Drogba, Gervinho, Toure & Doumbia), are used to playing in the heat, and will go for it in every game with nothing to lose. My main worry would be defensively, as they are far from solid at the back but do grind out results.

I understand there are many far more likely winners, but I for one will not be ignoring the white elephant in the room at 150/1.

Nice easy group? you obviously don't know much about international football then. Out of all of the groups this one is the most competitive, any of these four teams could go through and IMO Ivory Coast are the outsiders due to their shocking defending and Overrated attack. Colombia are a great side, albeit they're not proven on any big stage yet. Greece are again a very good side with a few great players and well organised, they also have a very sturdy defence. Japan are underrated, they have some great players going forward and in midfield such as Kagawa, Inui, Kiyotake, Honda etc. However their defence is a bit shaky.

This group is anyone's for the taking, I would say Colombia to top it followed by Greece.

Is Colombia still wobbly enough that a repeat of Escobar is still likely? I know very little about the country apart from they are expected to get through

well, now I know what you meant. A repeat of this is always a possibility, Colombia has it's problems with drugs as with the majority of south/central America but the problems are greater in Colombia than most of the countries around the area, up until a couple of years ago Colombia was the largest producer of Cocaine anywhere in the world so ultimately along with this comes the fight for territory with major gangs in Colombia which has caused endless amounts of problems for the Country.

In terms of football, they have a team of very, very good individuals however on the times that I have seen them play, they do not work fantastically as a team. You have the likes of Falcoa, Cuadrado, Guarin, Martinez etc. It will be interesting to see how they perform at the first world cup since 98 I think? especially as it's on their own continent.

So I guess R4E the answer to your question is quite possibly someone could be shot if they score an own goal

Interesting I just didn't know how much pressure they had this time round, and what the country was like. Looks beautiful but I wouldn't book it for a family holiday. On my own though, maybe one day

Why not... I think Liverpool and Everton doing so well means the England setup is improving. Two teams you could say contribute more than most to the England team

Liverpool: Flanagan, Gerrard, Sterling, Sturridge
Everton: Baines, Jagielka, Stones, Barkley

A lot of promise there. Should throw Southampton into the mix with Lallana, Cork, Rodriguez, Lambert

Did the Telegraph predictor and had a Spain Argentina final with Spain knocking out the hosts in the last 16.

Mind you, I kind of hedged my bets in the group stages and had most of the groups decided on goal difference, England out in the group stages in such a manner.

Brazil's World Cup squad has been announced!

Goalkeepers: Cesar, Jefferson, Victor.

Defenders: Dante, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Henrique, Dani Alves, Maicon, Marcelo, Maxwell

Midfielders: Fernandinho, Hernanes, Luiz Gustavo, Oscar, Paulinho, Ramires, Willian

Strikers: Bernard, Fred, Hulk, Jo, Neymar

What a squad

No place for Coutinho though - seems a little harsh

decent squad brazil put out. sad to see robinho wont be included in the final squad as much of a legend he is and this likely to be his last world cup.

very curious to see the side Joachim Löw puts out. I still fully believe that Germany will take it this year and im curious to see what players he selects which will give an insight into his tactics. Germany on their day are hands down the best side in the world.

Germany provisional squad in full
Goalkeepers Neuer, Weidenfeller, Zieler

Defenders Boateng, Durm, Großkreutz, Höwedes, Hummels, Jansen, Lahm, Mertesacker, Mustafi, Schmelzer

Midfielders/forwards Lars Bender, Draxler, Götze, Goretzka, Hahn, Khedira, Klose, Kroos, Meyer, Müller, Özil, Podolski, Reus, Schürrle, Schweinsteiger, Volland, Ginter

I honestly thought that'd be it for Klose. I'd like to see him get that 15th goal.

Exclusion of Lucas Moura has not gone doen well it seems. apparently Brazil is baffled over Hulk & Bernard getting in before him.

Moura, Miranda, Felipe Luiz, coutinho all out and all would walk into englands starting XI

solid squad that is! not to bothered about the lack of strikers since muller, klose, and podolski can all play in that position. strong midfield, strong defense, best keeper in the world. as i have said many times i can see germany winning it all with the right run of form. Id love to see klose get that 15th+ goal and set the record! not quite sure how low will be able to decide to get rid of 7 of those players. probably will end up getting rid of a lot of the young talent in the squad. id love to see him keep gotze, draxler, kroos, and reus in the squad though!

Look at a map. Chile is far south of most of the World Cup venues. Santiago is pretty cold for most of the year.

Funny how people have made so much of the conditions and that the South Americans will be used to the humidity... Most of that Brazil squad plays in Europe
