Poor Benzema, oh well at least he can console himself with his Champions League winners medal.

Is a France v Germany final possible? Because they look by far the best teams so far.

6th best results & form going into the WC. Doesn't mean they are the 6th best team in the world

I guess that recent form, should be some sort of guide. Is there any other ranking?

There is something called the Elo ranking in football, which uses the (suprise) Elo rating system, originally designed for Chess. France are 8th I think and Switzerland are 19th? Much better reflection then fifa ranking in my opinion. I don't know the ins and outs of how it works as it is confusing but I think they average the relative skill over the past 30 games and results, rather then combine all recent results like Fifa. Google it and there is the whole rankings on there. Top 3 are Brazil, Germany and Holland. England are 15th

Netherlands?

Their results are good and they've clearly got a hell of a lot about them, they've certainly hit the heights. But I don't think they've put in the sustained performance or looked as comfortable as France or Germany.

Well yes, Germany's second performance is not up to the standard or their first. Which leaves the French out in front alone on performances so far.

Of the major nations that is. Several of the smaller ones have looked very tasty, but you'd have to say they aren't likely to have the quality to sustain it into the latter stages. And of course, you'd expect to see the likes of Germany, Netherlands, Argentina & Brazil stepping it up in the latter stages. Should they make it.
