Plenty of slo-mos after the game. Samaras kicked the ground and took a tumble - about as cynical as you can get.

He did kick the ground, but only because his foot was caught by the defenders leg on the swing through. Unintentional from the defender, but a pen all the same. It was that contact that made his foot kick the ground.
And even with the slomo's all those in the studio agree it was a pen.

As in, not sure the defender actually meant to take out Samaras' leg, but he was too close so did still take out his leg, thereby preventing a shot in the box.
I really don't get why anyone could imply its a cynical dive.

I even just went and watched the replay/highlights on BBC website just to check I'm not going mental. How was that anything other than a pen?
At the very worst, the ref could have just shrugged it off a accidental contact (but even then it denied a shot in the box).... but a dive? never
