No way!

I was gutted when Ray Houghton scored that spawny goal against Italy in USA '94 and, as England hadn't qualified, plenty of folk this side of the Irish sea were more than happy to jump on the bandwagon - sickening. I only hope Doyle does well.

It's stupid because:
a) Ireland don't want England to win
b) It's actually a FOREIGN COUNTRY - why don't English people support France? It's actually closer to England.

Never personally had a problem with the Irish. Always like to see them have a good result. I think Ireland is a vastly underrated country and would love to visit there.

It's very overpriced that's what it is, but would love England to get drawn against them or Scotland for the WC Qualifiers, already had Wales and Northern Ireland last time.

That´s not altogether true. Go to a pub in Ireland or an Irish Pub outside of England and you´ll hear a lot of Irish people shouting for England. Everyone in Ireland has a favourite English team and likes, as a result, different English players. Cheering a player all year but then whistling him on an international weekend doesn´t make much sense.

Irish people´s "support" for England suffered with Sven though (1995 didn´t help either) but last night, I (Mick) was hoping for an English victory and was certainly not alone.

You'd support English speaking countries over countries that don't speak English?

How about a country that had English as a second language?

Who would that be then? Actually, I would only support England. And Wales to a lesser extent, cos of my grandparents, I suppose.

To be honest I'd support most teams with a Reading player in it against England so I'm always up for a good result from the teams with RFC players.

Except Scotland, and depending on Sonks in the future France.

The Irish deserve exactly the same treatment as any other foreign side.

They hired Staunton - surely the only appropriate response is sympathy.

Reading Abbey I have Irish blood in me, so yes!
But I was born in England and therefore class myself as 100% English.

Same applies to me too, I've also got some Welsh blood in me too.

In fact I hope all the British teams do well, unless they play England
