It does seem a bit odd for him to come out and say that. You don't usually hear footballers asking other footballers to come and join their team via the media.

No. I take it all back. If the interviewer hadn't asked him about Liverpool signing Barry, he probably wouldn't have said anything. I hate being mislead like this.

If he was going to beg for someone to join, you'd have thought he would have found a better player to beg.

Bit harsh, judging by their performances when they have played together for england, I'd say it could be a very successful partnership for Liverpool.

If Benitez or any other manager came out with those comments he would be hauled up before the FA!

Like who?

It would be nice for Liverpool, the self-proclaimed most successful club in English football, to at least have an English centre midfield.

Barry is not a world-class centre midfilder IMHO, if Liverpool are going to win anything next season, then they will have to do better than Gareth Barry

Whilst Barry is a fairly decent player, I think he's one of these fashionable players of the moment. We've seen it with the likes of Crouch, when he had a decent spell for England and club like Barry had this season. Ultimately they're a dissapointment and I feel the same will happen to Garry Barry.

The sad thing is that he's been consistently good since about 1998 and really should have been involved with England/at international level for the whole period rather than the first two and the last two of those years.
