Simon Cox attracting top flight interest

by Captain Lager » 08 Jan 2009 14:45

Skysports.com understands that Fulham and Bolton are set to battle it out for Swindon striker Simon Cox.

The 21-year-old is hot property after scoring 16 goals so far this season, and was named PFA Fans' League One Player of the Month for October.

That form has alerted both Roy Hodgson and Gary Megson, who are thought to be lining up bids in the region of £1million.

But they face competition from Championship side Sheffield United, who are hoping to beat West Ham and Fulham to the punch by preparing an immediate £750,000 offer.

Cox joined Swindon from home-town club Reading last January, and his 22 goals since then - including two hat-tricks - have alerted top clubs.

£1million beans, pretty affordable. Do you think he would consider coming back to us and would anyone want him back?

What the heck.
This should teach Coppell not to let our youngstars go too early.
He should have given Cox a chance.

On a brighter note - it should give our current youngstars motivation to perform!

Agreed, Cox was a player that had a future at the club. Him and Tyson are two players that should have been held onto.

from what i've seen of him both at Reading and Swindon he's not what we need. In the same vein that Nathan Tyson is good at the right level, the same applies for Cox and the Prem is too high for him!

The only problem with Tyson and Cox was the timing of their development.

Not quite right for Reading FC.

Now if they'd been born a couple of years earlier.....................

He was adjudged not to be ready for the Premier League last year, but wanted to play so we agreed to let him go. We wanted him to stay and if he had he'd have a decent chance of having been in the team now.

I can't seem him playing for any of those sides mentioned anyway be a bench/squad player at best.

I think you will find that with both Cox and Tyson, Coppell had the chat with them about staying and fighting for their place over time...but neither wanted this as they wanted first team football...certainly was the case with tyson...

They both wanted to leave..who is coppell to stand in their way...and decent money plus sell-ons where placed on both of them IIRC...

Cox certainly is no better than Doyler or Hunty and still is only proven at a lower level...Tyson is far to injury prone to be playing regularly at a higher level.

Ah, judging by that mistake it could easily be complete rubbish, wouldn't be surprised as it would be odd for a player to jump up two divisions for that much money. I do like to keep an eye out for Cox and I went to school with Tyson so good to see the pair of them doing well, even if it's not with Reading.
Still 16 goals already this season is a good return in any division.

Thaumagurist - I'm lazy and a n00b but the location of this thread is weakly supported by the fact that I've suggested Cox could return to Reading..... Stop the bullying.

In that case, it should be in Unfounded Rumours and Gossip. And I'm not bullying you.

Norfolk Royal Did we have a sell on clause?

Would be strange in the extreme if we didn't....

Inevitable that a striker scoring goals at a lower level will be being looked as by clubs higher up, but plenty who look good fail to make the jump (Eastwood, Trundle, Lita, Earnshaw etc etc etc)

It's sad that we can;t keep hold of every player we've ever had on our books, and inevitably one or two will move on and do OK. Good luck to Cox, whoever he plays for he'll still be a Reading boy !

You can't. You'll have to wait for a mod to move it.

Cox wanted to play, despite only being given 45minutes out of position he still proved he was more capable out on the right than most. Broken record when it comes to Simon cox but why he wasn't ever given a chance is a mystery and a very costly mistake.

Does that mean if we bought him back, we wouldn't have to pay as much?
