Stockport County

by Deathy » 24 Jun 2009 12:44

First they're issued witha 10 point deduction for next season and are 4-1 for relegation, and now they have no kit for next season!

In a climate where so many clubs stare winding up orders in the face but get saved at the 11th hour, this club is possibly closer than any of them to going bust.

Huge shame. Hope someone comes along, keeps 'em going, and rebuilds the club.

They're in a parlous position. Although they're now owned by their Supporters' Trust, they have the debts of previous owners still hanging over them, and also they don't own Edgeley Park.

Harsh for the fans and i don't think this will be the last club to be in this sort of state vis-a-via not owning their ground (Gillingham spring to mind).

As an aside - I bet it's not too long before some idiot (be in on here or wherever) suggests that Man City should bail them out because a) they are close to Stockport and b) they've got loads of money

Surely Man City will be able to bail them out? - being closed to Stockport and having loads of money??!

Just a suggestion!

What about Manchester United? They're not too far off and have loads of money too.

How much in debt are the likes ManU, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea etc. ??

Be good if UEFA said only clubs in the black could enter their competitions...

Sounds like a fairly racist policy

Yes, big promotion rivals. They're not anymore. And I was at that 1-1 draw. Great night.

Yawn, getting fed up of these stories, there is one every couple of months. Usual sob story.

Looking for someone to blame, look no further than the governing bodies.

Kevin Francis and Andy Preece ? I remember a 2-0 at Elm Park. We played them off the park in the first half and it was a mediocre second half.

Yes, indeed, Lovell scored both goals.

Gooding scored the equaliser at their place and it was a big party in the away end (now that was an odd tight stand)!!

If they did that, they'd struggle to cobble together enough teams to play a final.

Which goes to prove just how far we have come. Also confirms the increase in stature of the club.

Back in the late 60s, they used to charter their own train for away matches. IIRC it was called the 'County Arrow' I remember them using it for a game against URZZZ in 1967, (which we won 4-0 with John Sainty scoring).
