Agreed. Putting someone on trial for affray with little evidence of it being any more than a typical bar argument was completely pointless.

least we dont have to put up with the Free the Anfield One t-shirts, minutes silence, Atomic Kitten concerts and official boycott of the bar in question

Prolly out celebrating with Amy Winehouse, who's just got off an assault charge for someone trying to get a bit too Facebook photo friendly with her. Maybe she'll let him put some Phil Collins on

Absolutely riduculous.

Six guys beat up 1 bloke, 5 of whom plead guilty. The 6th claims self defence and is acquitted..........

Hmmmm.

Mind you, what do you expect with 11 Scousers in the Jury - most would have been more used to being in the dock. Plus, all it would have taken was for 2 or 3 of them to be LFC fans and thats that.

What a waste of public money.

The England midfielder Steven Gerrard was today found not guilty of affray over a brawl in a Merseyside bar last December.

The Liverpool captain was accused of attacking Marcus McGee, a 34-year-old businessmen, after a row over the music being played at the Lounge Inn in Southport, Merseyside.

The 29-year-old was out with friends in the early hours of December 29 celebrating Liverpool's 5-1 win over Newcastle.

Mr McGee is a mong.

Mr McGee is a mong.

Why?

He's having a private party, Gerrard wants to take the music over, Mr McGee says no, Gerrard and pals beat shit out of him.

Did anyone see the Hugo from Lost look-alike walk behind the reporter during the six o'clock news report of this story yesterday? It was absolutely hilarious.

So obvious from the video footage that Mr Gerrard was lying left and right. Still - seemed to me like the normal male fracas so I don't see why there should be charges. Waste of time.

Exactly, waste of time.
Not guilty.
Still Mr Magoo will be the man who took Gerrard to court, and lost.

Brilliant.

it's all boll*cks - 6 vs 1. If that was some mong from Huyton (who nobody knew about, or Joey Barton for that matter, rather than England's favourite) he'd have got done for it.

To ensure justice was done the trial should have been moved to Manchester. A dozen Retired Aggro peers would have come to the right conclusion.

The key difference being that they all jumped in after it had started.

Gerrards defence was that he acted in self defence as he thought he was about to be attacked. I don't think the others could go for that really, or afford to, or have a public reputation to protect by seeking an aquittal.

Perhaps Rafa can learn a thing or two here, Gerrard clearly believes attack is the best form defence...

5 pleaded guilty didn't they? That's quite different than being found guilty.

there must have been better cctv footage of it than has been released - given the quality/quantidy of footage already seen. p'haps this will come to light soon and exonerate Gerrard - or more likely the jury was composed of red nosed bin dippers

Thank god Stevie G was cleared.

A victory for justice.

Footballers should be allowed to repeatedly upper cut who they please, when they please.

Especially if you've captained your country and you're worried someone MAY hit you.

Thanks oxf*rd Stevie G wasn't in charge during the cold war with his penchant for a preemptive strike.....
