MiniRoyal Surely if Ashley wanted to sell, he should've appointed Shearer full time, got rid of some of the bigger-name players and made a commitment to stay with Newcastle (for the season/until Xmas) if a buyer couldn't be found at least 1 week before the transfer deadline.
The value of NUFC must be plummeting by the hour.

Totally agree. If he’d put Shearer on a 12-month rolling contract, half of those players could have been sold, they’d have had a constructive pre-season and the club would look a far healthier, more saleable proposition. Perhaps the away kit is the stumbling block for prospective buyers.
A classic design and they still fecked it up.
At least they still have Joey Barton.

Reports this week said Kinnear turned down the chance to return to Toon because he was still recovering from heart surgery or summink and he couldn't take the stress.

Deathy David O'Leary heads Ashley's manager wish list.
Royal Rother It's almost like Ashley has had a breakdown and is sitting in a dark room somewhere waiting / hoping for the whole mess to just go away.

I'd fancy O'Leary to get closer to promotion than Shearer. Not that that's a particularly ringing endorsement.

Joey Barton is understood to have had a training ground bust up on the eve of their season opener at West Brom. The controversial midfielder is believed to have stormed off after a disagreement over tactics, after returning to apologise he was then dismissed for the day while the rest of the squad resumed training.
Barton was visibly shunned by his team mates in the warm up and was reduced to exchanging passes with the club mascot for the 15 minutes prior to the game.
