Yet again a much improved 2nd half performance from W&E saw us come from a goal down to win 2-1. 5 points clear (AFC Totton can catch us with games in hand) and still undefeated.

If we could just play 2 2nd halves each game we would be nailed on to win the League.

Shame you've turned your back on RFC then, Rother. Happily for us all I am sure it won't prevent you from giving your opinion on the team you never watch.

I am considering going to watch Reading Town FC vs Abingdon United in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup on Tuesday. There is bugger all on telly.

WARNING
Bit of an oddity on the Fixtures for this week - according to the Official Zamoretto Southern League site and BOTH Club sites Abingdon Utd are scheduled to be playing away on Tuesday Night @ Mangotsfield NOT @ Scours vs Reading Town! :shock:

.... I s'pose Ab. Utd might be using their Reserves in this competition - after all they are not an Hellenic Club?

I'll have a dig about and see if I can find out for sure..... :wink:

.... anyone else fancying a midweek NL 'fix' here's some more 'local' matches in relatively close range - quite a few of these are League/County Cup games - so you might not get the 'full works'. :?

CONFS Staines Town v Bath City
CONFS Woking v St Albans City
SOUTH1M Chesham United v Slough Town
COCOP Camberley Town v Colliers Wood United
COCOP Cove v Horley Town
HELLP Flackwell Heath v Hook Norton
Cup games
ISTHMIAN Cup R2 Fleet Town v Ashford Town (Mx)
Southern Combination Cup – R2 Chertsey Town v Cobham
Floodlit Cup R2 Henley Town v Pegasus Juniors - if Mill Lane has dried out
Floodlit Cup R2 Highworth Town v Shortwood United
Floodlit Cup R2 Holyport v Binfield
Floodlit Cup R2 Reading Town v Abingdon United - see above - would be a good test if both teams are full strength - United are in 5th place in the Southern South & West - a division above Town
Floodlit Cup R2 Wantage Town v Thame United
B & B Senior Trophy R1 Chalfont St Peter v Abingdon Town

Yeah, I still pop in from time to time to see how you fully committed supporters are bouncing along on the bottom of your pits of despair, but you'll find I never comment on games I haven't seen. Never have done, never will.

RE Tuesday 10th November - Reading Town vs Abingdon Utd

... this Tuesday nights game @ Scours will DEFINITELY feature Abingdon Utd RESERVES - they also play in the Hellenic Reserve Divison One and like a few other non-Hellenic clubs, dual-register their players, since their Reserves sides take part in the Hellenic RESERVE divisions.
- Seems they are all permitted to enter the Hellenic Floodlit Cup - presumably to make up the numbers.

Other clubs who enter: Thatcham Town, Swindon Supermarine, as well as North Leigh & Diddy who actually compete at STEP6 i.e the Division One 'proper'.

Gets a bit complex should they finish in promotion positions - then you'd get a situation like Oxford City Nomads, who are in all but name Oxford City's Reserve side - now playing in the Hellenic Premier!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
.... some more info from this w/e's round-up ....
Four Of Clubs One East
Henley v Milton - odd :? - game switched to Milton cos of flooding @ Mill La - then Abandoned at Half Time :shock: - think I'll investigate.....
Sounds a bit nasty - there's a bit on the 'Hellenic Boot Room Chatter' - an internal League circular that goes round the clubs/officials/players etc
.... seems there was an 'incident' as the players left the field at Half Time resulting in a Milton lad being 'knocked down' whereupon he struck his head - ambulance - police called - match abandoned etc etc
... investigations ongoing! :?
.... special mention to Prestwood in the Hellenic One East - got their first point of the season in a highly unexpected 2-2 draw with South Kilburn.
... sad thing is - Prestwood led until the 93rd minute! :shock:
Just had a look on the Hellenic League site and Abingdon United have a reserve side who play in the reserve league.
... posts crossed in the ether!
The confusion (maybe just mine :oops: ?) might come from the fact that both the Official Hellenic Site AND Mitoo - where all the fixtures are posted - does not specifically show them as "Reserves" for this particular competition -
- it also usually shows non-Hellenic clubs in Italics for Cup games - which it hasn't done, so maybe obvious to some that this will be Ab. U's Reserves. :roll:
Just having a bit of fun old chap, taking the rise during these sorrowful times. Tbh, I can see exactly where you are coming from with regard to attending non league games; hand over a tenner or less on the gate, choice to sit or stand with a beer in your hand, what is not to like? Furthermore, the players are cheerful amateurs rather than preening, over-paid and poorly disciplined 'professionals'.
Four of Clubs - thanks for your usual excellent update which I am sure we all enjoy and appreciate. I think that Abingdon United's reserves will be at Scours Lane although it is indeed curious that their firsts have a game on the same evening. Bearing in mind that United's reserves also play every Saturday in the Hellenic League it is probably safe to say that the club are capable of fielding two teams on any given matchday.
Tredder Concord Rangers? wtf
They are a club on Canvey - not that far from Canvey Island FC - I'm sure they've had a mention on this thread before.
Founded in 1967 - they've come up through the Essex leagues - made it to STEP04 in 08/09. Their name stems from 'Concord Beach' apparently a stretch of Canvey island seafront. Early years were spent in the splendidly named 'Thundermite Boys League' :? and then the somewhat awkwardly tagged 'Vange & District League' :lol:
I think their nickname is The Beach Boys' . :roll:
Currently sit 7th in the Isthmian One North [two levels below The Beavers] but have loads of games in hand due to their Cup runs. Obviously this is only their 2nd season in the Trophy - started in the Preliminary Round and have beaten Chatham, VCD (nr Dartford) and Enfield T in the last round.
I saw them beat Camberley in the Vase a couple of years back - their present ground - god forbid you should ever HAVE to go there - is a dreadful dockside midden.
You get an 'exotic blend' of seaside/estuary aromas: Fish, Rotting Seaweed, Sewage, Oil - from a nearby refinery and from all the SuperTankers going in and out of the Port of London - all mixed in with a pleasant surround of 'mobile-homesville'.
... here's their website:
Today's scores - looks like the weather locally bore up well - most postponements seemed to be down in the West:-
FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round - hope these are correct; the Official FA site is often pretty slow with its results service - so a lot of these include results taken from the Conference South - 'Live Scores' service - so may be prone to error? :?
Went to Farsley Vs Droylsden today, Farsley were superb and were comfortable 5-2 winners. Also found a new Non League Magazine has come out called NonLeague24, looks good but a bit pricey at £3.95
