Nicest Men in Football

by Sarah Star » 08 Dec 2009 15:30

So far today I've read that Jimmy Bullard, Linvoy Primus and Bobby Charlton were some of the 'nicest men in football'. Who are the others?

Funny you mention him as after one drunken afternoon at the Reading Beer Festival back in 2008, one of our group had managed to obtain his mobile phone number so we decided to send him a good luck text (they were playing Leicester on the Sunday, with the opportunity to get promoted) so we text him wishing him all the best from Reading fans and he text back saying thanks, and the same to us.

And you can certainly add Maurice Evans, Trevor Senior, Kevin Bremner and Byron Glasgow to that list.

Funny you should mention him because when I talk to my female friends who have no interest in football, he is held up as an example of how every footballer behaves. I'd like to know a few more names to show that isn't the case

Craig Bellamy has set up a football foundation for disadvantaged kids in Sierra Leone. 1,600 kids now play in the leagues that it supports, where points are gained for fair play, school attendance, and community projects, as well as match results.

An Academy is being built that will offer the most talented kids US-style scholarships through their teens.

Great stuff.

De La Cruz. Regularly sent money to his home village for school-building etc. Got over there when he could to get hands on.

Yes, but he's a real paradox. He does this, but at the same time he's an arrogant pcunt who is up himself.

I imagine its an on-field/within-club thing - he's so desperate to prove himself and further himself that he doesn't care who he annoys to do so.

I know a few guys at football who've met him and he's nice. I mean, gave time of day and answered a few questions.

Possibly because he's not competing with them.
