Soccer - the way forward.

by Cookie » 14 Feb 2010 15:14

I don't know if it struck anyone else yesterday what a fast open game it was when both teams wewnt down to 10 men. Albeit McDermott contributed to the spectacle by keeping two strikers on the pitch.

Think about it! The ten-man set-up could be the way forward for the beautiful game. Not to mention the roughly 10% saving on the wage bill.

So you're saying, squads are usually 11 in size? Hence the 10% saving? Or are you saying that dropping one from the starting line up will mean you can release half of your squad?

A term used in the USA, where all the screwy ideas for "inproving" the game come from.

Ah! Wouldn't that give a 50% decrease? :D

It is an English term though, which was commonly used here until it fell out of favour, presumably due to negative associations with the NASL. Since those days though, very few, if any, screwy ideas for improving he game have come out of the USA.

Mind you, if you were to read any press about the game over there these days you be convinced the NASL still exists, with 35 yard offside lines, playing shirts with tassles on them, music at every stoppage, cheerleaders, and conference standard football played in front of 2000 people.

Still, soccer does sound nasty these days, but nobody seems to get irate at the title of Soccer AM.

folks do seem to get riled by Soccer AM, but that's prolly because it isn't as good these days, because Soccer Saturday gets a free run

Football AM and Football Saturday sound a bit rubbish though don't they?

That's some logic you've got there. The quoted figure was 10%

Ridiculous as this thread is, surely that argument holds.
