Fergie Jnr. not so happy?

by It Is What It Is » 02 May 2010 16:38

From BBC Sport.
Preston manager Darren Ferguson:

"I have already told a few players they are not in my plans and some of the players are not good enough.
"It just depends if I can get them out of the club because from what I have seen over the four months there are some players who won't be wanted anywhere.
"A lot of them are on far too much money and it's difficult to get them out but that is football.
"It will become clear over the next few days who those players are.

That seems pretty deep to me, normally managers don't really comment that much on what their intentions are going to be, but seems as though hes got some players he really wants to axe asap, ouch.

I would have their Number 5 - Mawene. Single handedly kept their defence as tight as he could. As for the rest...

Jeez that is poor, poor management. The season barely over and he's naming names on who's out and who's in and slagging off his own players. Like father like son I suppose but just absolutely LOL at the people on here who said he could ever be a future Reading manager...

Yeah a defence of Mills and Malwene would do for next year :D

I can't see David James moving to Reading, tbh.

I've always rated Richard Chaplow, but midifeld is not an area where we need to make signings.....

huge handful though, and presumably knows to kick a football with his feet rather than his shins unlike RFc's lone striking crap lump of lard

Talking about big lumbering strikers, with Blackpool in the playoffs there's the possibility Ben Burgess could be plying his trade in the Prem next year. Ben bloody Burgess! The world truly is turned upside down...

Agreed on Chaplow. Has never quite fulfilled his potential.

I don't agree with whoever said it was poor management though. I think a lot of those players on their way out are out of contract or loanees. The ones who are left and still have a contract will know where they stand and Fergie Jnr has shown he knows what he wants to give the rest of them a kick up the jacksy.

He stands a better chance of getting rid of them (maybe not at the best prices) by making it abundantly clear they're surplus to requirements.

Would you want to be the one that told him you were listing him a useless?

It's not just the transfer fee though - it'll free up space in the wage budget, and if he can pick up some frees & loanees that improve the squad for next season then it'll have been a good move for both the team and the business.

I seem to remember Chaplow was ahead of Sid in the U21 team back in the day. Always thought he looked a proper player at Burnley and was surprised thing never worked out at WBA. Really wanted to sign him when he left WBA and would still take him now tbh.

It's hardly good management to be openly slating your players before the last game, and telling them they're going. How many of those were actually playing?

'greed about Malwene, he was pretty good.

Having lived in P'boro when he was the manager there and now I live near Preston I'm always keen to see what Stella Ferguson is up to as I've never been a fan. I think his handling of the 2 championship sides he's managed this season shows it, he just doesn't have the vision o move forward.

As daddy bought Utd to London Road a few times during Stellas tenure and now he's at deepdale you've got to assume something silmilar will happen there which is always good for a few coins in the old piggy bank.
