NoKo serve notice --90 minutes required to put these boys down, no matter how good y'arre

No bookings for them 2nite, so they're all good for the dur7ion of group play from a disciplinary standpoint

Well done Kim Jong-Il's glorious soldiers but yet another black mark against ITV for their apparent shock that an international football team might actually be quite well organised. From what I saw of the earlier Group G match Portugal and Cote D'Ivoire might struggle against the DPR

Portugal are the world's worst team at breaking defences down. Very low scorers. Coudn't break 10-man England down when Rooney was sent off and they had an hour to score. I can see them struggling to score against N Korea unless Ronnie manages a cheaty free kick.

Something really refreshing about the North Koreans this evening was their honesty. There was no diving, no play acting, and no berating officials, it made for a very nice change and was a marked contrast to Brazil and Portugal earlier in the day.

Oh, 500 posts and it's only taken me five years.

And won't North Korea have something to avenge when they play Portugal? 8)

To a man, that Korea team should be failing steroid tests.

Why? Because they can work hard? They had their domestic competitions for the last 6 months suspended so that they can prepare for the WC - training, friendlies and all that. They're probably the fittest team out there!

This.

Can't see how anyone can be surprised that an East Asian team is super-fit, not least North Korea.

Wasn't Seal just complimenting them on their work rate?

What I think is apparent is that even the worst teams are going to be fit and going to be well organised. Even as recently as the 1994 and 1998 WCs, the weaker teams were still relatively easy to break down (even '02 had Saudi Arabia but I guess Germany are precisely the type of team that don't stop even when you're beaten).

Thaumagurist* My jaw dropped when I saw the first goal, but it's pretty obvious he didn't intend to do it as he'd been looking to cross it.

Or, he's looked up, seen nobody he can cross it to, the keeper's moved off his line as he's seen him looking to cross, Maicon has seen that and blasted it in through the gap left at the near post.

Put it hard into a place where it could do some damage.

Although his body language the moment he looks up suggests he had a clue what he was doing.
