Brighton New Stadium / Siena Pg3

by roadrunner » 22 Feb 2011 19:09

Don't get me wrong, it's got a real charachter about it, and from the outside it more than puts the rather plain Madejski Stadium to shame, but what are those stands all about?

One very impressive three-tier stand that wouldn't look out of place at any top European club, but just look at the other three stands.

The stands behind the goals don't even look like they reach the corner flags. They are so small and also very shallow. Why not make them steeper for a better view?

At least it's different to the all too familiar repetitive plastic bowl.

Capacity: 22,374 (ref. wiki)
Total cost: £95m

Like it, they have obviously made an effort to stay away from the Madejski design.

yep, like it too, looks one of the better new grounds for sure and built right next to a railway line just in case any fans ever wanted to get there

Stadium webcam. ^

Only one shot, but shows the corner of the goal-end stands will sweep around, not many rows though, looks like corporate or museum stuff behind the one in view there.

Partly forced on them by the fact that they need to be as inconspicuous as possible, so they can't have the same vertical extent we do and so have to have a different roof type.

What - the design that sees us have the biggest legroom of any stadium I know and an uninterrupted clear view of the pitch no matter where you sit (persistent standers notwith..er...standing)?

Riiiigghhhttt.

Two things never to be experienced at the Theatre of Dreams - oh, wait, they're all real hard there, aren't they? Everyone stands up all game and, fcuk me, who'd watch the action on the pitch at a football stadium?

Sorry, forgot myself for a minute. Won't happen again.

If I wanted leg room with a view I'd sit at home and put my faith in the sky camera man

Can't see anything there that suggests anything like "real character"

Yep, astonishing comments, looks like more or less every other modern day ground.
