As I see it, Sonko was a brilliant player for us for three reasons:
He had the heart - he always gave everything he had.
He was superbly athletic - that clearance which earned him the 'Superman' tag came from nowhere.
He was closely mentored by Graeme Murty to make sure he was in the right place at the right time.

Now he has no Murty to guide him and he has sadly lost his athleticism.

Heart is not enough, I'm sorry to say.

While I'd love to be proved wrong, I can't help but think that Sonko Mk II = Paul Canoville Mk II

Never heard of him till your mention - had to Wiki him, interesting...... don't fancy his CSA payments tho', 11 kids to 10 different birds - distinct lack of 'ball control' there methinks........ ahem

Might be a strategic move by RFC to soften the 'blow' of losing Shane today also.

Does anyone know who Charlton's penalty taker is? Pile all your money on him as first goal-scorer.

That worsens the blow! As if our back line didn't look shaky enough on Saturday against a poor attacking outfit!

This was always going to happen. We've got so little to choose from on our budget that a one-year deal was always going to happen IMO. I'm pleased as I like Sonko, but not so sure it's that good for us because he hasn't been half the player he used to be and he is another without pace. :|

This'll probably be the signing that McDermott said he was working on when chatting to Dellor on the radio on Friday night.

And that really is bad news. Long off, Sonko in, but we still need a striker. Long hard season ahead chaps!

Really? I'd say the squad is in far better nick than it was after we sold Siggy last season. That didn't end too badly, did it? We're a club that gives players chances; people will have the opportunity to step up and fill Long's void. If they don't, expect us to dip into the loan market again as we have done with great effect in the last 2 seasons.

The bottom line is that last season the consensus amongst nobbers was that the squad wasn't strong enough and that mid-table would be a good finish, but Brian was happy with the players he had and Brian knew best.

Why should it be that this year the consensus amongst nobbers is suddenly right and the person who sees the squad train virtually every day is suddenly wrong?

Ha ha, because most of the people on here are fecking stupid and don't know anything about football!
For some reason they think they know how the club should run and who we should play/sign.
I remember about a year ago defending Long whilst most of the morons were slating him.
Now they're slating the current squad and the possibility of re-signing Sonko.
Someone else pointed out that it is the school holidays, so between oxf*rd the silly little teenagers will complain that we aren't chelsea or man city!

Glad you agree with me. If you hadn't worked it out, that outrageous post where I accused Madejski of fraud was me playing me hand at WUMing. Out of boredom.
